I have a 2001 Dak with a 2.5L. Does anyone know about how much it would cost for me to get the 5.9L motor and swap it out with my 2.5L? Where can I get 5.9L motor and how hard would it be to swap it out?

Thanks,
Alan

I forgot to menchon that my dak has a manual transmission. Also I was just reading my manual and I noticed that the 5.9L only comes in automatic so could I still swap it with a 5.9L or would I have to use a 4.7L?

Thanks,
Alan

I do not know the costs because they tend to vary by area since you will probably have to find parts out of junk yards or swap meets. To switch to a 4.7 or 5.9 you need the engine, pcm, harness and factory motor mounts for starters. You would also need the exaust manifolds, cold air box and exaust y pipe with the pre cats to make it run. Mopar Performance seels a crate replacement 5.9 engine, part number P5007732, but you would need a donor truck, like a totaled truck, for the rest of the parts. Im not sure how the pcm would react to running a manuel, but I know for sure that you would need a pilot bushing and flywheel balanced for the 360 magnum with a crank sensor, you would have to get one of these off a manuel 5.9 ram. Since the only dakota that would have a harness for the 360 is the rt, you might find it easier to switch to a 5.2 or 4.7, but the swaps require about the same parts. I also believe that the 2.5 has a different bolt patern than the 5.9, so it wont just bolt up to the tranny you have. It might be easier if you find a donor truck to grab the tranny out of it. Thats about all I can think of right now. One thing is if you wanted to make it carburated the swap suddenly gets easier, but depending on the area you live in that may not be an option.

Alan......consider selling your 2.5L truck and finding a 5.9L or 4.7L truck used.
The headaches involved in the swap may make it not worth doing.
