Subject: Dodge Loyalty Program?

Message:
I am thinking of buying a 2005 Dakota Quad (I have a '99 SLT now). I have been "talking" to dealership internet coordinators. One advised that there is a $2000 "loyalty program" incentive by Dodge for previous Dakota owners. This is the first I've heard of it. Does anyone know if this is a fact or perhaps this is part of the rebate that is in effect right now?

Also, another coordinator said their price is 1% below dealer invoice. This is before rebate and incentives I assume. Does this sound reasonable? Thanks in advance.

Most rebates come from the manufacturer, so it does not hurt the dealer. Also remember that every dealer gets a kickback for every car/truck sold, usually in the area of 3% from the manufacturer. That means that even if they sell the car for invoice they still get that 3%.

I hear advertisements for loyalty programs from dodge and others on radio and tv all the time. Usually it's $2000, sometimes it's $2500. Sometimes it doesn't have to be the same make/model so you can get a dakota and get the loyalty bonus if you own a caravan. Sometimes it does, depends on the fine print. Ask to verify.

Be sure to ask about the 1% below invoice, that should be the price before any rebates. Also usually taxes, tags, title are extra. Sometimes they put disclaimers that the dealer keeps all rebates.

Keep in mind that that invoice is not really what the dealer paid for the vehicle, consider it more like an MSRP. Usually only a few people know the real invoice cost, that's the accountant who logs in the new vehicles at delivery from the factory and the dealer manager / assistant manager and the dealer owner.

I would keep the dealer rebate in your pocket. Don't bring that up until after you and sales have "negotiated" a price. Then toss that out and get and extra 2k off :)

If you use Farm Bureau Insurance (time limits apply), you can get an extra $500 off with a coupon from your agent.

good to see you looking at inventory online, some dealers offer internet only pricing on certain vehicles, it's usally a couple grand less than listed on the sticker in the vehicle's window.

"That truck has all of the options I want, but I don't like the color. Can I get an extra $1000 off the price so I can repaint it?" :P

I bought my 05 Dak in March, and traded in my 98 Dak for it. The first dealer I went to (the same dealer & salesman that sold me the 98) tried to give me a real shafting - he tried to convince me that the MSRP was the price, he had no room to negotiate or move off of that price. After walking out on him, and the next 2 dealers I stopped at, I ended up using the online features at dodge.com to spec out exactly what I wanted in a new truck. You can then use a feature to find dealers in your location that has Daks on the lot that match your wants.

I submitted a request for a price from 2 different dealers, and was amazed at the deals they offered me. Both came in under invoice ($1200 and $1500), and that was before any rebates & incentives were applied.

I ended up getting the $2000 loyalty bonus, and a $1000 discount for using DC financing (3.9%).

well I know when I got my 03 dak. the salesperson didnt want to go down. its better to go to your credit union and get pre approved for a car loan. then when you walk in your not dependant on the dealer to get you your loan. and can haggle more on the price. the first place I went to had a black QC I really wanted but wanted $25,000. I offered 20 for it. he told me beings it had only 3,000 miles on it he couldnt come down any on the price. because he said they was taking a loss on it at 25. I said thank yo ubut I will take my buisness else where. he then said snobblishly you wont never get a QC dak 4x4 v-8 for under 20. well the next day I got my dak for under 20 and got the extended dodge warranty and got almost book value on my 95 ranger. it took me awhile but I stuck to my guns and also got a better intrest rate on my loan. you just have to stand your ground with them. I feel like this was my best deal yet I did on a vehicle. so after I got my dak I went back to the other dealership and the sales person saw me in it. and he walked up to me. he said I see you got one. I said yeah and got it for under 20. he then said well it had the v6 right. I said no its has the v-8 and its 4x4. he got such a mean look on his face and said hope you enjoy your truck and I said oh I will for over 5 grand less. got back in and waved at him as I drove away.

so sticker price isnt final price. stand your ground and if they wont bend just say thanks but I will take my buisness else where. they then get scared and are more willing to work with you. remember they want to move them cars as fast as they can. it cost the dealer money just having cars sit for long periods of times.

Good point Jecht X. Keep in mind that while you may need/want a new vehicle, you don't need/want it from THAT dealer. Dealers are everywhere.

I couldn't be any happier with the deal I got on my 04 Dak. Like everyone said, I had to shop around a little but finally found what I wanted online at another dealer.

Although I live in western North Carolina and had to drive to northern Georgia to get it...(only about a hour and a half drive) they honored the price and helped me work out a deal that was well worth the trip.

I think it being late summer and the 04's being moved out for 05's helped me out alot. Sticker price listed for 20k and I got the truck for about 13k.

Whatever you do when buying a new vehicle, don't settle...get exactly what you want. It may take a little time but you can find the vehicle you're looking for a pretty reasonable price.

When I bought my 04, I used the 1% below invoice. My work has a partnership with daimler-chrysler. I called D/C and got the info, went to the dealership and they had to show all the paper work. Plus I got another 5k off that price. Couldn't beat it. Would've bought a HEMI, but it won't fit in my garage.

I bought a 03 4.7L 4x4 C.C last year and thought about trading it in on a 05 (before reveiled the awfull front end).but I knew I would just be giving my 03 away for a heavier, uglyer, lowsitting 4x4 truck.. Not to mention theres so many rebates on the 05's there willing to give you 2 grand off no matter what modle dakota you got. I was looking at my local newpaper and found out theres a Dealer trying to sell a 4.7 H.O 4x4 QC 12,000 dollars off MSRP. Not only Dodge dealer are doing it GM seems to be begging people to enter there lots as well...

I think I'll just sell my trucks on the Net and then buy a 04 Modle with a 3.7 V6 mated to a 5 speed transmisson.. I here there not as gutless as the older 239 and also they get better fuel milage.. Thats what I'm looking for with these fuel prices still hovering above $2.15 per gallon.
