Subject: heater box

could anyone out there tell me as to how to get the cover off of the heater box once you remove it from the firewall? i removed my dash and got the heater box out of the truck and removed all the vac lines and all the screws, but i cannot get it to come apart without breaking it, i do not know if you are supposed to break the cover to get at it, but it is starting to be a pain i the a$$ any help would be greatly appreciated.

What year is your truck? When I replaced my heater core a year ago on my '99 it came right apart, after I removed the 47 screws holding it together.

on my 95 ..

a retaining nut on the blend-air door pivot shaft.

need to pinch crank off pivot shaft

screws on at the defroster outlet chamber, air inlet plenum and screws on the cover going down into the housing.

thanks for your help guys, i found that retaining nut and removed it, once i did that the whole thing came apart, now the other question i have is, my original heater core is much thinner than the one that i had bought is that going to make a difference or do i need to get another one?

I bought mine at NAPA and it was thicker than the stock one. I had to wedge it in, but it did fit. As long as its the same width and height and it will fit, you won't get any obstruction.
