I've pretty much bought a different wheel cleaner every time i've gone to autozone, and i can't find one that's really "spray on, hose off" does anyone know of any that are, that actually work?

If you know anyone that works at a dealership, have them check with the detail guys, I work at acura, and the detail guys get me wheel acid. It melts the dust right off, but it is heavy duty, so you got to be careful. Most dealerships have it from what i've heard, so give it a try.

I have given up on finding a spay-on and hose off cleaner that really works.

Bleche-wite (found at Walmart) works very well on cleaning wheels and tires. Spray it on an absolutely dry wheel & tire. Then clean the tire with a wet brush (you'll have to rinse the brush a few times). After the suds are all white on the tire, take a rag and wipe down your wheels.

If you have been spraying armor-all on your tires or some other chemical, it'll take a few cleanings to cut through that goop.

It's some work, but I'm always happy with the results.

If you are referring to the rims and brakedust/roadgrime, the best thing to use is just the soap and water (car soap, not dishwashing soap, unless you don't like having wax on anything) you used to wash the truck. All grime and brakedust will come right off. This is also assuming you wash your truck at least every two weeks. If you aren't, your just making triple the work for yourself. I never use any harsh cleaners (wheel cleaner, rim cleaner, wire wheel cleaner, 409, Fantastic, Orange cleaner, Simple Green, Puple whatever,.... get the picture) on the rims. Would you use them on the painted surfaces?? No, then why would you think the rims are any more durable.

The tires, A good stiff scrub brush with any all purpose cleaner will clean them up. Just be careful to spray the cleaner on the sidewalls of the tires to avoid problems as mentioned above.

Good luck

If you have aluminum wheels, Mother's is the absolute best out there. It's more work (similar to waxing) but I only do it ever 6 months or so and the grime just sprays off during washes in between treatments with no scrubbing at all. Don't use it on aluminum wheels that have clearcoat though.

I guess you guys spend alot of time on your knees cleaning your wheels because the wheel acid we use, works fine we use it everyday on 36,000 dollar cars, and it hasnt messed up any rims, or even the paint.

To get any type of cleaning chemical for any part of your car, the best brand, by far, is carbrite. The only way to get it though is through a dealership or auto detailing place. They make products that will do anything from waxing your car, compounding, carpet cleaner, vynal cleaner, wheel cleaners, degreasers, or tar removers. There the most pricy, but you get alot, anywhere from a gallon to a 5 gallons (which would last a life time to the average guy). The trick is to catch one of these sales people the day there at a dealership, there nice people and there prducts are the best. No over the counter suppliers compare. These are prvate retailers though, so the prices may vary a bit.

But...if worst comes to worst and your wheels are super super grimey, SOS pads and spray 9 or other degreasers will work real well, the SOS will take off surface rust and virtually any grime, plus it takes alot, ALOT to wear through the paint or finish of the wheel.

I got a friend who's a detailer... he did my truck for me recently. I bought one of the "best" wheel cleaners I could buy at a normal store as was told by one of my friends. It took care of my rear wheels, but didn't even touch any of the brake dust on the fronts. I got chrome American Racing rims and that stuff clings to the chrome like nothing I've ever seen before. My friend told me the wheel acid they use at the detailing place would take it right off. I said yeah right...and when I had him detail my truck, he proved me wrong. The first time he did the front wheels, he got about 90% of the brake dust off...using a soft brush, he did it again and got everything off. The rears were clean within about 5 seconds. He said that wheel acid is pretty dangerous stuff to the paint though if you aren't careful...he sprays down the paint all around the wheel and the inner fenders. Then after spraying the tires off he immediately sprays down the side of the vehicle in case any splashed on the paint. He had a coworker at another body shop he worked at do it without getting the paint wet first and when he finished, there were pink spots all around the fender where the acid had splashed onto the vehicle's red paint.

I've tried no less than 10 different "wheel cleaners". What I personally found to work the best also ended up being close to the cheapest. The "Orange Blast" wheel cleaner they sell at walmart (in the orange bottle). I spray it on, let it sit 30-45 sec and spray it off. As long as it hasn't been 5 weeks since my last cleaning it works perfectly..
