Has anyone in this forum experienced any problems with quality with new '05 Dakotas? Just picked up my new SLT Quad Cab this weekend and I am very dissappointed with the fit and finish. The bed is off center by half an inch on one side to the cab, front passenger door is 1/4" higher than the rear door, right fender is 1/8" recessed from door. This was a factory order so I know that it was not previously crashed and rebuilt. Even the V8 badge on the tailgate is uneven.

I got an '05 SLT at the end of February, but I haven't seen these kinds of imperfections. I have about 1850 miles on it so far.

But I'll have a closer look. So far, I'm pretty happy with the vehicle (although unhappy with gas prices....)

wait, they have quality control?!?! I couldn't tell... ahh, the life of a facotry worker though, is very rough, cant be perfect on every ride.... some of that stuff may have happened in transit, since they usually ship out on freight train, then semi, to the dealer... so it can shift around abit, but not the emblems... thats just sloppy.

It's nice to see someone else as anal as I am! They don't get overly concerned with it because the simple fact is that the majority of people would never notice those problems. They get faster production and as a result increase profit because no one notices. The few that do notice are the squeeky wheels and when you make enough noise you'll get some grease.

My 05 Laramie Club Cab 4x4 seems pretty well put together. The only problem I've noticed is that the 6CD/MP3 radio's fragile little mind is easily confused -- once in a while given too many inputs it'll lock up like a computer running Windows ME. Turning the radio off and back on seems to take care of it.

I went back and checked the bed alignment, looks perfect as near as I can tell. My emblems are on straight, too.

My only complaint is the steering wheel click-thing (that trips the directional back on the return) snaps VERY loud on right turns. I suspect that will dull with time.

I talked to the dealership today and they advised me to take it in and they will look at it to see if it warrants sending it to a body shop to realign the body panels and the bed. I am afraid that all that work will create new problems. My appointment is next week so I will update the posting.
