Do not buy tires through the internet. What are you going to do when you get a flat? or need a rotation? or need...???

Nobody locally will help you. If you get a flat, the mail order places will require YOU to take off the tire, mail it to them, then they will fix it, and then they will mail it back to you. All the time your truck sits in the garage bored.

These places will only save you maybe $5 - $8 per tire versus a local place. If you ask me, I would just stick to a local place that will take care of you.

Walmart is cheap for mounting tires and you can get low price lifetime rotation and balance from Walmart using tires you bring in. The intent of my question is to find out if a website is out there that can save me money on tires and then use walmart for install, etc. If there is not such a site, then of course I will go to my local tire dealer. So, the question is still, "does anyone know of any online low priced websites to order tires?"

TigerDak is right. You may save a few bucks buying off the Internet but in the long run it'll be a pain for repair/replacement/warrenty problems.
I just happened to have to have one of the RTS Wranglers patched on my '01 CC SLT 4x4 at a Goodyear store, no charge and I would bet you'd pay if you showed up with an Internet purchased tire!

I'd be interested in cheap internet prices on tires too. I know of a place locally that will match prices on tires even internet prices. That's just one more reason the info might be helpful.

I always deal with Discount Tire... They have a website, www.discounttire.com where you can price out their tires and then locate one of their local stores where you can buy the tires in person.

Fortunately, there is a Discount tire retail store near where I live and they pretty much meet or beat everyone else out there... plus their road hazard guarantee (Certificate for Free Replacement) is among the best... a brand new tire (not prorated) is given as a replacement if you ever have severe tire damage that can't be repaired with no hassles.

Personally, I buy all of my tires from this place, and I give them 2 thumbs up! LOL

BTW... I know that the Discount Tire shop I go to will match internet prices..

Since they are a "national distributor" they pretty much carry almost everything out there.

(Ok, now I am sounding like their marketing department... Hey... where's my finder's fee? LOL)

Try http://www.tirerack.com, they have agreements with local tire shops to ship directly to and SUPPORT the factory warrenty. I bought the Pirelli Scorpion A/T 32X15, what a difference. Anyway, the deal was flawless, no taxes paid here in Taxachusetts. That alone was worth the shipping cost (not to mention the rebellion factor).

The Les Schaub place here in town will fix anyones flats for free most times. If they can be fixed. I think the big O does the same. That said I will try to give these guys my business but my brother had to buy his snows for his wrx from tirerack cause nobody else had any in stock in town. www.discounttiredirest has free shipping on wheels and tires right now, but I priced the rear tires I want for my R/T locally at the Les Schaub and they were actually $10 less each. Costco also has good deals on tires and about the cheapest mounting and balancing in town. They even did the mounting and balancing of my brother's WRX snows he bought at tirerack and he isn't even a Costco member! They must make money on the mounting and balancing no matter what ($6 a tire.)

I've been buying tires from the Tire Rack almost exclusively for the past 15 years. Prices and service have always great, and the cost of shipping is made up for in lack of sales tax. I have them installed locally at a price of $6-9 per tire. That includes lifetime balancing and rotations. As far as road hazard and warranty issues are concerned, in 20+ years of driving, I've only had 1 flat (on a tire that was almost bald) and no warranty related problems. So, these have never been big concerns with me. I have noticed recently, however, that some local tire stores will not install tires not purchased from them. IMO, it's just lost business for them. Tire Rack does have their installer network. If you live in an area that has one, you could use them for added convenience.

Personal story: stay away from Big "O" brands. Bought a set for PU camper truck (89 F240 with slide in shadow cruiser pop up). Blew (tread separation) a different tire (4 different trips). Each tire replaced for free; however, never could get them to admit what problem was. Got so fed up with them (do you know how scary it is at 75/80 mph to have tire tread separate?) last time, went to discount tire, put on complete set of Yokahamas. The Big "O's" had total 5,000 miles on them. Discount Tire will get my business forever. No problems with tires, good staff, honest (at least here), good prices, and best warranty.

You suckers buying your tires through *local* dealers are crazy. A national brand tire is just that...NATIONAL. So in effect, its covered ANYWHERE that sells/warranties those tires.
Example, local Goodyear wanted $175 per tire for RSAs and $20 each to mount, etc. I ordered some through www.tirerack.com for $112 EACH shipped. Took them to a local Tire Kingdom and had them mounted and balanced for $11 each. So my total savings was over $300. Do you really think these tire *salesmen* are worth $300 extra??
BTW, Tire Kingdom does warranty the tires!
Anyone else that has money to throw away, please deposit in my paypal account (frankfriendly@yahoo.com) ...lol

I also use the TIRERACK and all i can say is that they have the best product and customer service that i have ever gotten from a tire retailer and i have friends in the Tire Business and they say that cant even come close to the prices, as for the mounting and balancing i have never heard of a tire shop turning down a chance too mount and balance. How do you think they are gonna keep in business if they turn you away for buying someone elses product and then have a chance to make profit from M&B. I tell you what i would do is just go find another dealer and work a relationship with them. I bought Tires from the TIRERACK their price for the BRIDGESTONE RE910 in a 215/45/17 for the wifeys RICER where a $108 a piece and the closest i could get from my friend was $155 a piece and he was selling them to me at cost, and thats the same exact tire from BRIDGESTONE. well that my 2 cents worth

What will I do when I get a flat or need rotation ? Simple, ever hear of DIY ? Those cheap tire repair kits sold at Walmart work great, tool works easiest if you pressurize the leaking tire first. Any of you who may be carpenters prone to picking up nails on jobsites, $3 kit & tire chuck for your jobsite compressor and you're the hero if anyone at the site picks up a nail. Really simple, just follow the directions, often you don't even need to take the wheel off. Big bad tire store won't mount your new skin's ? Why take your business there instead of your local service station anyways ? Build a relationship with them for when you may need them, they're not all bad, you'll see how they treat their other customers while you're waiting.

TIRERACK just saved me about $400 on a set of 4 Goodyear Fortera HL tires! Local Goodyear dealer wanted $205 per tire mounted (balancing, taxes extra!), the tirerack price was $104 per tire $452.08 total price for a set of 4 including shipping. No way am I going to pay $820+ for a set of tires, and it is the last time I will go to this local Goodyear dealer.
