Subject: Odometer/Trip question
IP: Logged

Message:
I was driving my 03 4 dr Dakota yesterday and the message P Done came up on the odometer. The odometer was on the trip counter when this happened. Does anyone know about this? I thought perhaps it was meaning Trip Done and that the trip counter only goes so high. The trip counter was around 200 something when this happened. When we got home, we turned the engine off then on again and the message went away and it said 1.8 miles on the trip counter. I called a dealership and they said if it happened again to bring it right in and they would look at it.We are going on a long trip starting next week and we don't want the truck to break down or other problems. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

the codes are displayed via the odometer, this is one of them. P Done is the PCM diagnostic check is done. That being the case, the next question is why did the PCM run a diag check.

Thank you for the reply. What is the PCM? Is this a serious problem? Do you recommend that i take it to the dealership?

PCM = power control module - brain for the truck if you will. Usually they don't fail, but it should not be running a diag while you're driving it. If it happens again, you should get someone to check it out. If your truck is still under warranty, I would take it to the dealer.
