My friend quoted me $400 to do my cowl induction hood...flame red. He was quoted a lil over $200 for the paint alone. What color is your truck? That alone could result in a pretty big price difference. Black = cheap; flame red = far from cheap.

True, flame red is damn expensive. I painted my entire truck last spring. For one gallon it was like $250. Then the guy told me there was an "offbrand" paint for $75 a gallon. I went that road, I figured red was red, just as long as the clearcoat looks good.

...and you know, honestly your truck prolly is one of the better looking Dakotas simply because it's probably not as commonly seen on Dakotas like flame red is.

My R/T's color, I think, is called atlantic blue pearl.
So your telling me that a paint job for a hood might cost as much as the hood itself?

Our hoods (97-99) at least are $285 from Dodge.
I had an AAR hood painted and the inserts for the scoops painted and it cost me $275. White hood, black inserts.
You have a fancy sounding color their could take more time to match it correctly.

I've gotten a couple hoods painted Graphite for my ride here in Austin for like right at $200.
