I finally did it. Yesterday I drove from Provo, UT to Rexburg, ID on 1 tank of gas. It worked out to be 320 miles out of my 15 gallon tank. I think thats pretty good for an 03 4x4,4.7, 5spd, 3.55, ex. cab with 33 inch mudders, HO cams, intake, exhaust, superchips, a westin grill guard, and a roll n lock tonnoue cover. I even averaged about 80 mph, just thought Id share my excitement. Makes me think twice about installing my 4.10s...... not really.

I have the exact same Dak as yours, only it's a 2000 and I get about 19-21 mpg. That's doing 90% highway, driving around 75 mph. The sweet spot for the best mpg on the 4.7 is 65-70 mph

I get like 14 MAX on my 2000 QC 4x2, :o\
I think I may have added a tad too much weight to this truck for the poor 3.9 engine to handle it.

I couldn't get 20mpg if I was driving downhill with a tail....hurricane helping me along. Best I have seen is an avg of 13-15mpg when cruising around 55mph.

the best mpg i got on my stock 4.7l qc auto wit 3.55 was when it was new and driven @50 on highway was 19 mpg. Now with 21k on it the best i get is 16/17 mpg.

In my 2004 QC with a 3.7, I average between 20 and 21 mpg,
day in and day out. About 65% freeway, 10% city and 25% foothill
driving. No mods, no nothing.

And just think ..... My 1998 Dodge Ram with the 5.9L Cummins
Turbo Diesel gets better fuel economy than my 1995 Dakota
with the 3.9L V-6.
Dodge needs a diesel in the Dakota !!

All of you guys are lucky, I'm averaging just below 12mpg in my R/T. I would be lucky to see 16 on straight highway.

You mentioned 15gal tank...are you estimating that you used a full tank for 320 miles or did you fill up and actually calculate it.
I know that I have a 21gal tank in my 02' CC 4.7 so I know yours is not a 15gal tank.
If you really did get 20mpg, wow...
The first few tanks I put on my 4.7 I got about 17, but that's before I started using that handy pedal on the right...hmmph.

I actually filled up and calculated the mileage. My tank is only a 15 gallon, I have had it very close to completely empty and most I could get in there was 15.3 or so gallons, so Im positive I don't have a 21 gallon tank, but I wish i did.

my '00 5.2 durango got 20 mpg highway with just mobile one in the pan.
i now have a free'r flowing intake and flowmaster muffler... but with the 32" tires i just got, i dont know what she does since the speedo is off

i think, the only way to get good gas mileage with a dodge is with the ignition turned off.

I get 19 mpg on the average with my 2001 Ram 1500 3.9 V-6 with five speed manual tranny. Lowest ever was 16 and highest ever was 22. It seems like the Dak only gets 1-2 mpg max. more mpg than a fullsize. Kinda wonder what's the point.
