With the right parts that "stupid Neon" could waste Dakotas all day long.

They're pretty fun cars to drive, awsome handling and nice power once the turbo is spooled up. I would drive one if I was in the market for that kind of car.

Depends on what you want more, gas mileage and speed or safety.

I think they are pretty cool, but keep in mind the Neon (same body) did VERY poorly in the recent side impact crash testing: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2005/iihs_side_iimpact.html

In other words, if the Dakota you traded it in on or anything for that matter T-bones you in that car, you will most likely be killed or an organ donor at best. I’m not trying to rag on the SRT4, but this is something to consider, at least to me. I guess it’s like riding a motorcycle…you’re at the mercy of every idiot on the road.

Just my opinion…

Personally, I think it's a pretty sweet car. I have respect for just about any vehicle that has an honest attempt to produce speed and look good doing it (stickers, fart cannons, and wings do not count here.) It's a pretty darn quick car, may not be the safest as stated above, but I bet it gets twice the mileage of my truck, which I have to admit would be REAL nice about now.

So put in a roll cage. No matter what a small car is going to lose to an SUV. You just have to be more aware and drive defensively. I've been driving small cars and riding motorcycles, as well as 2 Dakotas, for over 23 years and I've never (knock wood) "been at the mecry of every idiot on the road".

As far as I'm concerned, everybody else on the road is an idiot and they're at my mercy ;)

As for the SRT-4...awesome car. If I could slide one past the Treasury Secretary I would add one to the collection. I had a 97 SC and with a few mods it moved and handled very well. If you no longer need your Dak, by all means, great car.

Don't expect to save too much on gas, though. Don't those babies drink Premium?

a side impact rating of 3 stars for a sport compact is not bad.

2004 Neon 3 stars

now look at stuff in it's class

2004 Cavalier 1 star
2004 Focus 3 star
2004 Civic 3 star

FYI, there's a reason why they are getting rid of the cavalier.

yea im tired of putting gas in my dak. and i put a new trans in it at only 90000 miles. it has been a good truck and decently quick, but for less than the money i have spent on my daks mods, that car and mods would dust mine or most mild dakotas asses. and its a five speed so i dont have 2 worry about that dodge auto trans

I had a neon once. before they made the SRT. It had the DOHC 150HP 2.0 4 banger (Sport). Pretty weak compared to other cars I had before and after and to my truck but it got 30MPG.

I got rid of it for the size in general. TOO DAMN SMALL. It sucks being the ROAD KILL compared to most other vehicles around here.
I don't think I'll take anything smaller than my Dak ever again. Except for maybe a muscle car with a roll cage.

Now I got flack for this sh*t when I posted it when it happened. But a guy with a SRT-4 here in my area came flying up behind me and got next to me at 2 diff stop lights.
The thing was we had no room to race over 40 to 50 MPH. I actually pulled from the dead stop each time and by 40 he'd be back beside me and we caught up to traffic by then. On the last light we had NO ONE to worry about and as I hit 50 or so I turned into the left lane where I was turning off the main road. I think he was PISSED because he had already started passing me and I KNOW he would have pulled away from me like crazy after that. I could hear his turbo spool each time he'd come next to me.
He wasn't reving it up repeatedly or anything at the light. It seemed cool I could pull him from a dead stop before his turbo gave him anything.
They must have some lag from the hole. Because a year before when I raced a 1.8 Turbo jetta he pulled even from the hole each time but never pulled me at faster speeds like the neon surely did. The Neon seems fast from 40 and up...

I've never driven the SRT-4 but I used to have a Neon R/T and it was a blast...and the performance on the SRT-4 will be worlds better. It was just too small and eventually I couldn't stand it anymore.

they're damn fast... you're insurance will prolly jump up, as its supercharged, but as one of the other posts said, its a stupid neon. yeah, its a cool little import burner, but I'd rather be beaten by a neon than drive one. I guess I'm a bit conflicted, overall, b/c its a neon, I don't like it, because its an american import stomper, I like it... because its an American "sportscar" and the only one thats a compact four door, its cool. Iguess it comes down to how you plan on driving... gas, towing, insurance, are all factors to analyze first before you trade. for me, the Dak R/T works just fine... but I haven't driven a car in over six years, outside of my 65 Stang... and I only drivethat occasionally in the summer.

Maybe if it were a V6, and a bit cooler body style, like a Prowler, or something in the size of the 300M, i'd think of getting one, but I just hate compact cars.

BTW... It's TURBOcharged.

I do think it's COOL DC did a Turbo car on their own (NOT a MitsuBitchi).
At least there is a little spam can out these to mop the floor with a Civic/cavalier :)

It's just TOO small for me.

Now the truth comes out, lol. I get my need for speed from my 60-something father. He drives and SRT-4. Stage 1 kit on it also, upgraded pcm and injectors. Cold air, short shifter.

It doesn't feel like any four-cylinder car I've ever been in. Tons of power. I'm also 6'2" and I fit fine. It's tough getting in and out because it's low though. My Dad's is an '03, Solar Yellow. He might be selling soon because he has a hard time getting in and out of it. Should I buy it?
