Dunno if it helps sales that much, but the 2005 2-door (Club Cab) pickup received 5 stars for both front and side crash test ratings, and better rollover stats that the other 5 star winner, the 05 Tacoma. (Maybe that 1" drop in GC helped something after all...)

Anyway - some good news on the Gen IV redesign, if anyone cares...

Nice to know they are safe but they are still
uglyer than sin.

Like looking at a cardboard box with cheap
interior.

Plus with the price of gas going up and up, all
cars and trucks can just stay on the lots.

Well, I got one. It's not as elegant looking as the Gen II/III, but it kinda grows on you.

It's rather surprising to me that the full size Chevy did so poorly compared to the smaller Dakota and Tacoma. Glad to see the new dak did so well though.

Here is a similar link if anyone is interested:

BTW, the new dak is starting to grow on me the more I see them.

See, that Leno-esque chin is good for something! :) (And it isn't so bad looking in body color...)

I am kind of surprised they lump the compact/midsize and 1/2 ton fullsize together in one rating system, with how porky the 1/2 tons are getting.
