Hey all, I've been away from the boards for a bit... wrapping up my last semester in school and never seem to find the time to read posts anymore.

Question for everyone, all this talk regarding the faulty ball-joints has gotten me increasingly worried over a noise I hear from my truck. Especially considering that it has recently gone from "occasionally" to "almost all the time".

The noise can best be described as a clunking near the floor boards of the truck, audible on both sides. I would go as far as to say it sounds like metal buckling or rocking around inside of it's container.

The noise ALWAYS follows a load shift on the suspension, i.e. acceleration/braking shifts the load on the suspension from a central point. If i brake you will hear the noise as the front end of the truck goes down slighter, if i accelerate the noise appears when the truck's nose rises. The noise lasts only a split second, one single click or clunk.

Also, it can be heard after the suspension has made a minor adjustment for something like an uneven grade in the road or crossing over a patched spot of pavement.

If anyone has any suggestions as to what it might be, please let me know. I'm planning on taking it in next week regardless, but I’d at least like to have a heads up.

Thanks a lot!

- Skylar

to check your ball joints jack the front of the truck up and grab the tire at the top and bottom andpush and pull on it. there should be very little slack.if it moves alot then your ball joints are gone. do the same only with your hands at the sides of the tire to check tie rod ends. i wouldnt worry too much, ball joints usually wont break.i know they have but they will last a while after they are gone. i drove mine for a year and a half with bad joints. pretty stupid i know but they didnt break.

Thanks for the reply. I'll give that a shot tonight or tomorrow, provided this sunny weather holds up! =)
