Subject: glass chips

Message:
I was driving home from work a couple of months ago and had a couple of rocks kicked up in front of me, and put two little pits in the windshield directly in my line of sight. They are not big at all, and are not spider webbed out. I'm not concerned about them ever getting worse, they are just annoying to look at when I have my ride all detailed out. Is there anything available to fill in pits or chips, like some sort of resin or filler that can be buffed? I've searched for something, but can't find a product that will do this. Any input will be appreciated

There are products for that. I have no experience with them personally. Stop by or call any of your local auto parts stores, they should be able to help you. I think I saw it when I got some glue for rehanging a rear view mirror.

I know here in GA, there has been alot of stands set up around shopping malls and such offering "free glass chip repair". Again, no experience with these so I can't tell you if it's worth it or not.

Your insurance carrier may have the chips fixed at no charge to
you. I had a rock chip in my lline of site (in fact, if the windshield
was not there, my eyes would have needed fixing, not the
windshield). My insurance co paid the cost of the repair, cheaper
than a new windshield. The glass man came to my home, in the
middle of nowhere and did the job in my driveway. Only
occasionally can I tell where the chip was. No problem seeing.
Call your ins. co. and find out what they will do.
