I was getting a PCM code of P0161 on my '01 4.7. That should be the O2 sensor, bank 2 sensor 2. I was told that was pass side behind cat. Swapped it out today with replacement "universal" and reset PCM. Drove about a mile and MIL light came on again. New code of P0051. That code seems to indicate a problem with Bank 2 sensor 1 - "HO2S Heater Control Circuit Low Bank 2 Sensor 1". What gives? Why would that code come up as soon as the other was fixed? I was thinking I could have possibly wired the universal incorrectly but then I still cant figure out why the message would pop up for the other sensor? Can anyone shed light on this at all?

I think I got that exact code once about a year ago.

Turned out to be that I knocked the wiring harness loose once when I was under there working (or looking) at something. The wire to the O2 sensor(s) melted through the HOT exhaust pipe... OOPS!!!

Re strapped the wiring harness away from the exhaust and never had a problem since.

Actually I'm really not that upset that the light is on because the truck runs fine. Lousy gas mileage right now but it runs fine. The problem is I need to trade it in soon and the dealer is gonna hit me hard if the light is still on. I told him it was a simple fix and that I'd take care of it before trade in time. Now I'm getting the other code and just want the #$%^ light to go off.

Why isn't the dealer taking care of it for you - milage higher than 80,000 ? If not, should be covered by federal emissions warranty.

Kow,
I was wondering the same thing. I'm actually only at 30K but over 3 years. Apparently different states require longer warranties on the emission system. I think here in NY it might be 5/50,000. I am going to check with the dealer but I'm afraid they may tell me I'm SOL because I already replaced one myself (and blame the problem on my repair).

No, not different states. "Federal" is all 50 states together - if you live in any of them, it should be covered. The only way you wouldn't be covered is if your repair is the problem - and if you repaired it because they wouldn't, you might be able to hold them responsible for that too. Did you give them a chance to repair it that time ?
