I test drove a Honda 2006 Ridgeline yesterday, it has 255 HP and my Dakota is a QC which has 235 HP. I think I could beat it in a race! The Honda went up a hill and shifted into some gear at 4500 RPM to get up the hill. My Dodge went up the same hill at 3000 RPM, at what gear I don't know cause on a 5 speed auto you can't tell what gear you are in.
Also the Ridgeline has a bad blind spot if you try to look out the right rear corner of the truck. And the outside rear mirrors are too small (not wide enough).
Just a few things I found in a trial run, decided to keep my Dakota (Honda was $34,000)!

Where as the QC is just another cheap SUV. What can you do with a 4' bed on a pickup truck? The QC definitely is not a truck in my book.

I just measured my outside mirrors and they are almost 10 inches wide, Honda's was about 6 inches.
Also my truck bed is 5' 4" long and the Honda's bed is 5' long but it is over 4' wide.

00 and earlier Dak's had the "Dumbo Ear" 6x9" mirrors, you can find them on Ebay for a reasonable price from time to time.

My ol' 00 CC had these mirrors and I liked them a lot for towing, whereas my 03 QC has the 5x7 mirrors that don't have as good of a view.

I too just went out and test drove a Ridgeline just for the hell of it. All I can say is that it looks even worse up close. That and doesn’t have enough torque to pull a sick whore off a piss pot. It’s truly gutless unless you mash the pedal and get the RPM’s up high. Upon mashing the pedal, the engine flares up and screams, but the truck doesn’t go anywhere fast.

The only explanation I have on it’s lack of performance is I’m thinking that Honda put tall gears in it for better mileage, at least that what it felt like. It’s like it has to go into passing gear to make any HP. That or it’s just cammed to make it’s HP at high end. I challenge anyone with a 4.7 Dak to go test drive one of these “255HP V-8”’s and compare powerbands.

In my opinion, this Honda "truck" isn't what I'd consider a real truck either. Wait and see how many of these “girlie trucks” end up being used to tow. All that upper end HP would be cool in a Civic, but it’s virtually worthless in a truck. It's a girl’s truck in my opinion.

Let the anti-Dodge trolls that lurk here begin…

Wow, I'm in a weird deal here. I work at a Honda dealer as a tech and own a Dakota. Mmm. Anyway, since I've seen these things up close and personal I can say a few things about them. Truck? Nope. Something that is front wheel drive based isn't a truck. Sure, it has a small rear differential (VTM-4) but basically it just kicks in when needed. You CAN lock the rear diff in, but it automatically kicks out at 18 mph and even them only 70% of the power goes back there. There are some more chassis reinforcements than on the Pilot and the frame does look rather strong. It will tow 5,000 lbs, but not sure how easy it would be. The cooling systems and transmission can easily handle the loads as they have been upgraded over the Pilot drivetrain. The few positive features in my opinion are the nice interiors, power rear sliding window, fully loaded, etc. The storage area under the floor of the pickup bed is really cool too. People are buying them already, but it's basically the same crowd that has already owned a Honda. I don't think any of the domestic full-sized truck companies have anything to worry about.
That's my take on it. And who styled this thing? Geez, it's ugly.

the ridgeline will be just like when the beetle and mini and PT cruiser first came out. alot of people bought them be cause theu was new and different. one thing I noticed about the human race is. they want to be different than everyone else and will put up with a crappy ugly car. once everyone has one they then realize. hey what was I thinking I hate this car. then they trade it in and get something else and waits for the next new designed car.

as far as design of the ridgeline. all they did was copy the avalanche chevy made. nothing but a basic copy and paste honda did.

I guess graphite called it right on the ridgelines power. aint got none untill almost tached out and even then not that impresive. cant wait till some poor fool trys and tows something with it. but it is a girly whatever you want to call it. because I am with the others it isnt a truck. just a suv with its back top off liek a bronco or blazer. I might have to go test drive one and see how poor it is.

Somebody sure got upset when they mocked the QC Dak and called IT a SUV!

And what's with the 4 foot bed? I knew mine was over 5 foot. I was able to put my ATV in the back and close the tail gate before I installed my truck box. I can still put a large ATV in the rear (including a polaris) but have to leave the tailgate down.

But at least I can pull my usual load of two adult ATV's and two kids ATV's on my 12 foot trailer. Plus camping gear for all four of us, and the four of us in my QUAD CAB and usually stay in OD which is approx 2K RPM's at 80 MPG using cruise control and getting 12MPG. Not too bad I think. Plus it can still maintain 80MPH up the hills by JUSt dropping from OD.

And what's worse, some of them Ridgelines costed MORE than my 4X4! For a FWD based SUV (not a truck)?! Yeah they've tried to make it fancy like a Accord with the gadgets, but sh*t.
With the few hundred I've added to my sh*t I've got a better GPS navigation and stereo system than the Honda POS anyway. :P

I saw a ridgeline at this auto store. Looked like a mini avalanche and about as ugly. I dont know how eaily it will tow 5000 pounds. All and all its probably a fine car for someone who wants to go to work, carry a couple of friends abd get some fertilizer and flowers at the home depot but I dont consider it a truck. Its another cross over truck. call it what you will its nothign more than a station wagon that was lifted slightly, the rear portion cut off and a pseudo 4 wheel drive system thrown in. Sure it will most likely run forever cause its a honda but I prefer a real 4x4 where when I put the lever in 4 lo it stays there. I dotn need a car that thinks for me

That's the truth. yet the MYTH is that they last longer.

Go figure! Try to find just a 15 to 20 yr old honda around sometimes. it's pretty hard.
Unless you look in the junk yards.I go to the junk yards a dozen times a year usually just to buy little trinkets for projects. I see TONS of them cars in there. trouble is you can't get into a rolling fender bender without totaling the car!
