I have a 98 dodge dakota 318 that has set for 2 years because i lost my license. when i first got it out of storage it wouldnt start at all so I put in a new battery, and it ran fine. as time has gone on it runs perfectly once it is started! and it does crank over to get started! But it cranks and cranks and cranks to start up, you can drive all day pull over turn it off and it still cranks and cranks before it starts. If you pump the gas it doesnt crank as long but it still cranks more then it should. Not being a mechanic im at a loss, just to throw out my own guess I would say that the fuel in the injector rails(?) went bad over the 2 years of sitting? and when it was fired back up that fuel clogged the injectors? Any one more educated on mechanics tell me if my thinking is correct or point me in the right direction?

Sounds likely if you didn't add a fuel stabilizer. Take it into a shop and have the fuel system flushed. They use a compressed can of solvent that flushes the injector rails and injectors.

If you don't have the smack for that, go to a drug store and buy a bottle of 99% isopropyl alcohol (NOT 70%!!!). Mix it with equal parts of naptha and dump that in the tank next time you gas up.

you parked it two years becuase you lost your lincense?? Well I would have drove the sob any way at leat to get to work and back..

If could be that the fuel was cloged or just that you may need some new plugs (wires).

My 318 Dakota takes a while to start when its cold. But s much faster with new plugs and wires.

Drop a bottle of SeaFoam in the tank. Better auto stores have it. It's about $8.

I parked it for 2 years cuz the cops had their eyes on it big time. Dads been driving it since I got it out and he said that every time he sees a cop they turn around and pull in behind him! he got pulled over once and the cop walked up to the window and said "OH" then turned around got back in his car and left. Black dak on centerlines, exhaust that will wake the dead and license plate MOPOWAR not like it stands out in traffic! Had to park it LOL thanks for the input
