Subject: Fault Codes (need list)

Ok, I know this subject has been brought up many
times and when I did a search on the subject
using search engines and searching on this fine
site, nothing gave me what I'm really looking
for.

This morning (Sunday 03/13/05) I started my 02
Dakota 4X4 with 4.7 and I didn't get six blocks
down the street and my ENGINE light came on.
Everything was running ok so I contuined on my
way. When I returned home I did the key on and off
thing and three codes were displayed, P1388,
P0456 and P0645.

After searching on the Internet, I found a site
that listed some but not all codes and some
sites listed codes for 2000 and older cars and
trucks but none for 2001 and newer.

My question is, is there a site that lists ALL
the codes and maybe even some insite what to look
for insted of a few words about the code itself?

I was luckey, I cleared the three codes by
disconnecting the battery. I was able to see what
P0456 and P0645 were. They were not related
problems so I figured the Dakotas computer picked
up some faults information. At least I'm crossing
my fingers.

Thanks for any help!

Thanks Dan M but none of the sites you listed,
listed anything for a 02 or newer. In fact, the
first two didn't even have P0645 or P0456 listed.
The last one did list P1388.

So what is the big mystery or secret about trouble
codes??

Does My Car Have OBD-II?

All cars and light trucks built and sold in the United States after January 1, 1996 were required to be OBD II equipped. In general, this means all 1996 model year cars and light trucks are compliant, even if built in late 1995.

My 95 dakota is not OBD II, but my wife's old 95 mustang is.

If you would have dug deeper into OBDII you would find that

P0645 - A/C Clutch Relay Control Circuit
P0456 - Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (very small leak)
P1388 - Camshaft Position Timing Over Retarded (Bank 2
