Subject: rough idle proble solved?!?

For the longest time, I've been plagued with a rough idle problem. Sometimes, the vehicle would idle fine, other times it would shake so much the entire truck would shake. Sometimes it would be so bad that you can stand 15-20 feet away and watch it shake.

I think I finally solved the problem. I'll need to drive it more to tell for sure, but so far It's not idled bad at all. And it only took about $10 in parts. I replaced the breather grommet and hose as well as the pcv grommet and hose. Thought i'd share this with others who may be experiencing similar problems.

Oh yeah, the truck is a 95 CC SLT 4x4 3.9L auto.

No, it never stalled. As I look back, the problem was a progressive one, getting worse as time went by and the truck has always idled a little rough since I bought it in 1998 when it had 39k miles. The truck has always had a distinctive sound - you could tell the difference between my truck and every over vehicle. The PCV grommet was the worst offender, It was rotting from the inside. The outside looked to be in good condition.

In retrospect, it's one of those things I should have taken a closer look at long ago.

I picked up the Breather grommet and hoses from advance. I had to get the PCV grommet from the dealer, none of the parts stores sold / carried the correct grommet. Neither Advance nor autozone carried it and were unable to order it. Neither Napa nor orielly's carried it, but said they could order it (but it was the wrong part). Pepboys carried one for my truck, but it was the wrong part. I was forced to go the dealer route. $3.99.

Very good Dan.
I have a 1994 3.9, so I'm assuming the parts are
the same.
Advance (partsamerica.com) has the PCV grommet (Motormite 42344) but not the breather grommet.
Do you have any part numbers?
What diameter are the hoses?

Thanks

zzark,

That is the PCV part# they had listed for my '95, but it was too small to fit, this is why I had to get the PCV grommet from the dealer.

Advance did have the grommet for the breather, it's also a motormite.

I'll get the part #'s and the hose sizes for you when I get home, including the Mopar grommet for the PCV.

Pictures might help, I'll take some of those as well.

That was quick. Thanks Dan.
Pix are good.
I think I'll replace the same parts.
It's cheap and good insurance.
