I changed both diffferentials & replaced with amsoil series 2000 75w-90 gear lube and anti seize lube. I get a constant hum between 60-65mph.when I let off the gas it stops humming. Differential gears were replaced & fluid changed to Synthetic at 15000kms. Truck only has 31000kms. 4x4 02 Dakota with 4.7
Could the hum be from anything other than the differential? Noise is definitely coming from the rearend.

Did you check to make sure you drive shaft was tight? I had a similar problem and my driveshaft was loose. If its good and tight I would look into transfer case. Look at Anything in the driveline really.

If you're diff is limited slip you should have put an additive in it.

I thought the Amsoil gear lube didn't need the additive. Am I wrong?

Yes I did put the limited slip additive in,and yes you do not have to add it if you use series 2000.I was wondering if it could be the fuel pump making the noise. When the truck just sitting idling you can hear the constant humm. The truck goes in to the dealership on Thursday,I just want some ammo when I see them.

whoa weird i have that too but had no idea what it is... In idle, (nuetral, park,) or when driving slow enough to hear it outside, i have a constant hum, it actually sounds like its coming from where the Bed of the truck meets the cab ( rear window). I stuck my head between there once and it seemed to be loudest aroudn there... So i think its the same deal as this guys?
