Subject: 180 T Stat question
IP: Logged

Message:
Having installed a Robert Shaw 180 T Stat in my '01 Dakota QC I have the following question
I would like to have input on. Anyway, I live in upstate New York and in the Winter it does get colder then lets say Virgina.. Dips to -20 etc. on occasion. Will I have problems or regret my change to the 180 T Stat or need to go to the stock T Stat in the Winter? What will I notice in the Winter if I stay with the 180?
Thanks in advance for your input. Bill in NY

I would think just a drop in heater performance. You could put something in front of the radiator to warm that up. Keep in mind this is from somebody in Alabama where it doesn't get as cold as NY.

From my understanding of the 180 t stat is it opens up the water flow at a lower engine temp. The reason is to keep you engine cooler. The only thing that it should make a difference on is the temp of the air coming out of the heater. Currently I live in GA so if amyone from one of them colder places could give us a hands on answer... luck to you

The final temp of the air blowing out the floor vent will be about 15* cooler than before - not enough to notice.

Going back, I ran a 160* in my 454SS and a 180* in my K5 Blazer in Indiana winters with no problems at all. I just put a 180* in my Dak about a month ago.
