... Okay, Gloves Off!

What can I say … ‘Bout Darn Time. Mobil1 has been offering a 15,000 mile oil change interval motor oil in Europe for many years. This is an Americanized version of what already exists in Europe. Prior to this announcement, I guess they did not think American consumers were worthy of an extended drain motor oil. Why? They wanted to keep their hands in your wallet every 3k miles. --- Foul !!!

Mobil recently announced several new extended drain interval oils with performance guarantees ... Mobil Clean 5000 (5,000 mile oil change interval or 6 months), Mobil Clean 7500 (7,500 miles oil change interval or 6 months) and Mobil1 Extended Performance (15,000 mile oil change interval or 1 year) … all guaranteed. What is a guarantee? A guarantee gives you no legal remedy. A warranty is what gives you certain legal rights. Better to have a warranty than a guarantee. --- Foul !!!

It is nothing new. Many years ago (back in the 1970's), Mobil offered an oil with a 25k mile oil change interval … copying what was already offered by Amsoil at the time. They discontinued it rather quickly, and went back to the 3,000-mile oil change interval recommendation. Why? They wanted to keep their hands in your wallet. --- Foul !!!

I think this is both Interesting and Exciting … and long overdue! I'm glad to finally see another major oil company promote the idea of extended drain interval synthetic lubes. It only helps me to validate everything I've been telling folks for the past 10 years. ‘Bout DARN time Exxon/Mobil. Of course everyone will complain when it's priced at almost $6.00/qt., or if they can't get it on sale at Wal-Mart.

The TRUTH --- Amsoil beat Mobil1 to the punch, offering extended oil change intervals, thirty-two (32) years ago … but unfortunately most consumers like to buy their stuff on sale at Wal-Mart (via a catalog) and don't like paying a premium price for a premium product. I promise you --- this new Mobil1 will be much more expensive than the Mobil1 currently offered now, and they certainly won’t offer a Preferred Customer Membership Program like Amsoil that saves consumers 20% off the retail price (effectively buying at Amsoil wholesale prices).

It's good to see extended drains promoted by a large oil company (ExxonMobil). Now the flamers might leave me alone and give Amsoil credit where credit is due. I am predicting that the new Mobil1 Extended Performance (long drain) oils will fail to gain consumer (market acceptance). Most of the Mobil1 users still change their oil at 3k – 5k mile intervals --- even though their owner’s manual recommends longer oil drain intervals. They wrongly believe that what their grand-daddy told them still holds true today.

Now --- I have to wonder what Castrol (fake synthetic) will do to counter these new Mobil1 oils ... Maybe start making a TRUE synthetic oil again? Ha Ha !!!!!

Warning Mobil’s website states that because of the heavier dose of additives, it is not a fuel economy rated oil. --- Foul !!!

i know my work truck isn't a dakota, it's actually an 04 freightliner w/ a mercedes diesel engine in it. but the oil changes recomended by freightliner are at 10,000 miles, the body however is 8,000 don't know why they can't make them the same. but to get to my point is that this truck easily hauls between 15,000 empty and 58,000 loaded through out the week in city traffic and is recommended at those intervals, now it seems to me you ought to be able to run a dak of any size atleast 5,000 on any oil changes unless you're running through the baja and sucking in a lot of sand to the engine. i've driven a chevy 4.6 that we changed the oil every 5,000 miles and it didn't burn a lick of oil and it was 10 years old when it was purchased. i am also proud to say i have ordered an AMSOIL catalog and i'm going to look into purchasing their product
