I saw 2 05 daks today! One was bought buy some local bug spray company and the other was from Ecolab. Seems the new dak may start to get some good Commercial/Fleet sales...

I see more gen IIII's than Colorados and (the other one, can't remember the name 'cause I hardly see any of them!) combined. So I think they'll be around for awhile yet.

They will probably still sell to people looking for a mid sized truck with that kind of power and interior room. i.e. EcoLab and other commercial uses tht don't need a full size.

Where they will now LOOSE sales is from people like ME who already HAVE a Dakota that looks BETTER than the new ones. In my opinion anyway.
I'll hold onto my Dak for a long time. It will be great to pay it off and put some good mods into it.

Actually, I have an 01 2WD and a 97 4x4 so I am quite an expert on Dakotas.

I am also an expert on human nature and my expertise me that most of the 16 year old zipper heads on this board could never afford a new 05 so they won't start liking them for about 5 years when the used market becomes flooded at which time they will come here and cry about how great the gen 4 is and how bad the gen 3 sux.

Hey Grow up,
Yeah, that's just not true. The Gen3 is freakin' awesome and the new dakota, in my opinion, is not going to cut it, design wise. What the hell is a zipper head!?! Just because you own a dakota does not mean that you are an 'expert'

You grow up, you old fart

I am amazed at how petty things get. Grow up the 05 has a body style that I personally do not care for. You may not like the Gen III. You are entitled to your opinion. If you are such the expert you would understand that opinions are like AZZholes everyone has one and they all stink. You really are not as much of an expert as you think.

I personally don't care for the look of the 05 Dakotas.
But I didn't like the look of the new Ram when it came out either.
Now I see them everywhere , so people must like them.
I'm sure given time the new Dakota will make money for DC.
It may be in the guise of the better looking Mitsu. Raider, but DC will still make a profit one way or the other.

Why the Gen III? What's up with that? What about the Gen I? 10+ years old and running just as good as the day she rolled off the factory line! I'd estimate that 90% of the parts are still original (except maintenance items)! Everything else is an upgrade except the calipers and the front axle - cheaper to replace it than just the boot.

3.9L that gets 17 mpg combined and up to 25 highway. 4wd system is still rock solid, i love the shifter in the floor.
