I drove by all the major brand Auto dealers in my area as I am looking to purchase a new truck. I am not brand loyal as I have had Dodge, Chevy, Ford and even a Jeep Commanche. I don't really need a full size as I do not haul or tow anything heavy. I like trucks because "if" you need to haul something (even light items) they are very handy. And hey, they just look cool. well anyway, I figure I will get a compact pickup truck (cheaper, better gas mileage) I saw used rangers, s-10's, daks and full size p/u's at Ford, Chevy, Dodge, nissan and Toyota dealerships. But what I started noticing was at the 6 factory dealerships I visited none of them had any used toyota pickups for sale? not even the Toyota dealership! Sure the toyota dealership had New Toyota trucks for sale but no used ones? they had plenty of other makes of used trucks but no toyotas? I got to know, are toyota's that good that people just hold on to them or is it because toyota just don't sell alot trucks (so there isn't just alot of them around for resale/used)??? Just to see if it was a coincidence I went looking at the many small "used car dealer" places and did not see a toyota pickup I did see one older (early 80's) toyota landcruiser. and one nissan pickup. I was originally leaning towards a dak because I like the fact that it was the biggest of the "compact" pickups. I was not really thinking about a toyota or nissan but seeing NO toyotas and only one nissan maybe I should re-think my options.

Please help i'm confused.

toyota makes a good truck but they have there issues like most, here where i live you don,t see many toys like you do dak,s10,ranger,maybe a 1 to 30 ratio

check out same of the forums on ford, chevy, toy, nissan, dodge read some of the problems they have and be aware of them

newer dak have balljoint, warped rotors problems,
check trans for good shifting,

being informed will help you in areas that need your atention more

i have a 89 v6 dak with 170,000plus i plow and tow with it,replaced trans at 118,000,fuel pump, water pump and front wheel bearing around 124,000 and the normial things, its been a good truck

good luck

Look around, do you see any older toyota vehicles on the road? Probably not, most have already rusted out too much to keep driving.

you see more 80's toyota pickup trucks around with or without rust then you do early Daks! and remember they sold many more daks then they did toyota pickups.

Hey "which truck" listen to your inner thoughts... there is a reason you don't see as many used toyota trucks at dealerships it IS because toyota owners hold on to them longer and or they pass them on to other family members or friends.

You might pay more for a toyota.... why? because they hold their re-sale value. Just check out NADA or blue book. Toyota keep the highest percentage of new to resale price ratio than any other truck manufacturer in the U.S thats a fact not even dak owners can't deny.

Former Dak owner that saw the light....

I've seen plenty of toyota trucks for sale around here. Might be something to do with the market you are in.

On a side note, when my wife was looking for a new car, we wanted a late model used car with 4 doors, good gas milage and extended warranty. One thing I noticed, noone had any used subaru's for sale in our area. We even checked carmax online and looked outside of our area and found only 2 or 3 in a 5 state radius.

We wound up purchasing a pontiac from a dealer in nc near where her parents lived when we went to visit them around thanksgiving.

the reason you dont see TOYS in the used car lots. is they bypass the lot to go rust in the junk yard lol.

but seriously its location. I know around here I was looking for a used dak and out of 10 stealerships (that be toyota, dodge, ford, chevy) I saw 3 daks. I saw more taco's than dakotas. I live in the moutain regions of VA. so I guess they want a heavy duty 4x4 around here. as we do alot of towing. also yo uhave to ask. you may see more in your area not to the fact they are bad truck but prob due to high gas prices. a v-8 sure does suck the gas. I can almost bet you if gas prices went back down to a $1.25. those daks would be off the lot in a heart beat.

if you want a taco then wait untill one hits the used car lots. no need in getting somethng you dont like.
