The all-new 2005 Dodge Dakota Club Cab has received a Five-Star rating in front and side-impact crash tests from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Dodge Dakota marks the eighth consecutive new Chrysler Group product to receive Five-Star frontal crash-test rating.

“When the Dodge Dakota was redesigned, we knew we wanted to continue what Dodge is known for – rugged, tough vehicles that withstand all road conditions,” said Mike Donoughe, Vice President Body On Frame Product Team. “We also knew that the all-new 2005 Dodge Dakota would be built to include the latest safety technology that would help keep our customers and their passengers safe in case of an impact.”

Safety features on the all-new Dodge Dakota include a hydroformed and fully-boxed frame that improves handling, accident avoidance and crash protection. The new, award-winning and patented octagonal front frame rail tips help absorb impacts in a frontal crash.

Additionally, the 2005 Dodge Dakota features a new advanced air bag system that includes dual-stage front air bags and an occupant-sensing system for the passenger-side front air bag. Other safety features available on the new Dodge Dakota include side curtain air bags, which cover both rows of seats on Club and Quad Cabs. Rear seat positions in the Dodge Dakota feature three-point shoulder belts, including a new center seating position on the Quad Cab.

Starting with the Chrysler Pacifica in 2003, Chrysler Group has an unbroken string of eight consecutive product launches that produced NHTSA-rated Five-Star vehicles for frontal crash protection. Vehicles include: Chrysler Pacifica, Chrysler and Dodge Minivan, Dodge Durango, Dodge Ram 1500, Dodge Ram Quad, Chrysler 300, Dodge Magnum, and Dodge Dakota.

The NHSTA are only one view on crash testing. Vehicles have gotten high marks from them, then tested poorly by the IIHS-Insurance Institute for Highway Safety

They also got front tow hooks, dammit.

Actually, those 2005's look pretty good from the back.
Butt-ugly in front, though.

Coil-overs? Big deal.
And yeah, what about those ball joints?

"got tow hooks", it's a new design! No track record other than the prototypes. If ball joints really worry you wait 5 years! :) The joints are a sealed type like the old, but with a new design I'd expect they'd try to design out the previous design's flaws. I know that as an engineer I wouldn't want my name on the documents and drawings putting a new suspension with the old design's flaws into production.

I had to drop someone off at the airport the other day and just happen to park my white 2000 QC SLT right next to a white 2005. EGAD!!! That 2005 really is butt-ugly from the front. It really, REALLY has one big, butt-ugly frontend. I mean REALLY ugly. No kidding, REALLY, REALLY ugly...

I know, I know... opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one, and it's great that the 2005 gets 5-stars, but geez... that is one UGLY frontend... here's to hoping my 2000 keeps running strong for another 5 years...

I just traded my 99 Dak Sport 4x4 for an 05 Dak CC SLT. I admit that the first time I saw the 05, I thought it was butt trifflein'. I test drove one and got a good deal with the incentives, so I went for it.
I park her outside my office window so I can look at her, and I gotta tell you, she is really growing on me and looking good. I remember thinking the same thing about the Gen II when it came out.

And the ride and comfort is head and shoulders above my 99. I sure am going to miss the old Dak though!

I'm with you, Chief. I just traded in my 97 CC (w/ 158K and a failing tranny) on an '05 CC 4.7/4x4/Red. I'm not too worried about the looks - it's agressive and I've gotten several positive comments so far on it. I miss my '97 already, but the new one doesn't really feel like mine yet.

Not too happy I lost 1.5" of ground clearance, but I'll manage - my main offroad driving isn't super-serious.

reality check I know with the 99 dak my sisters ball joint snapped on her going down the highway at 65 MPH. did a 180 and slammed in to the guardrail sideways doing 65 MPH. her and her husband walked away from the truck with not even a scratch on them. so I know the truck can take a serious pounding. I for one am not to worried about my 03 in a wreck. from seeing how my sisters dak did in hers.
