Subject: Buy 05' dak? or not
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 01' QC 4.7 2WD slt 72k miles runs great. But was looking at 05' QC 4.7 slt 4WD 0k miles. I live in ohio so winter can sux in 2WD. Plus more than 75k miles may not be worth much on a trade-in. I like the new look, But is $25k+ worth 0 miles 4x4 and new look?

have you test drive it? you are the only one that can answer if you should get it or not. could always get an 03 or an 04 and save some money.

that I cant say. I know my sisters 2000 drove different than my 03. I would say test drive the truck and see how you feel in it. I am sure they changed somethings on it to ride different than the 03 and 04. also 4x4 drives differnt than 2wd

My theory on trucks is that you run them into the ground and only sell them when fixing them up isn't worth it. Is it worth it to pay 25K just to get 4x4. Not in my opinion.

if you work at dodge cant you take one for a week and drive it. but to finance $10 grand isnt bad at all for an 05.

Well, I'm close to trading in my '97 5.2L 4x4 for an '05 4.7L 4x4 CC. The dealer is ready to sell me one for invoice, plus $3500 total rebates and a decent trade for my '97, which has 157K on it.

The truck definitely felt different from my '97 - seemed a little more sluggish to accelerate, but I think the accelerator pedal has a longer throw to it. I'm always a little squirrely about hammering a car on a test drive. The '05 handled nice, VERY quiet, slightly better visibility out the windshield. Interior is spacious and comfy.

Two little things I didn't like - I have an Infinity sound system on my 97, this one is stock (big step down). And, I'm a smoker, and the '05 doesn't have an ashtray - or if it did, I couldn't find it.

O ya the 0% financing...

Blanche, do you know what gets the wood grain dash and what gets the silver dash? slt, st or laramie?

Ya, I also have the infinity, but didnt think it was worth the extra $$$ I'll buy my own speakers.

SLT has the woodgrain. Not great looking but I can live with it.Laramie has the aluminum.ST has black.Make sure you get the anti spin rear.I got the 0 percent for 4 years with $1000.00 rebate for financing thru Chrysler plus $2000.00 rebate for owning a Dakota already and you don't even have to trade your old truck in to qualify for it.They just need a copy of your old registration.Test drive one first.I think you'll like it.

why anti-spin? if its 4WD? If I slip I'll just kick in 4x4.

If you don't have anti-spin you will have an open rear end which is just one wheel pushing you when stuck in snow. With 4 Hi on you will also have one wheel in front pulling you in snow. With anti spin you will have both rears pushing you in snow. At most you will have 3 wheels going when stuck in snow and ice with anti spin. Only 2 without the anti spin option.

Being in Ohio, I'd go for the 4x4. I live in Minnesota with an '02 4.7 QC 4x4 and love it when it snows. Seems you guys get more snow than we do these days, go figure.

I agree with the previous post about getting the limited slip; helps a lot. I personally like the gen III's better, but the new ones are starting to grow on me. Just wish they'd raised the height again for the 4x4.

It sure seems to me that my 05's not much lower than my Dad's Gen II 4x4s are. I'll have to take some measurements next time I visit the folks. The Gen III 4x4 does sit nice and high but the old 4x2 looks like a lowrider in comparison -- maybe they met in the middle? :)

The salesman told me that all 05' daks are now the same height 4x4 or 4x2. I parked my 4x2 next to an 05' and the 05' was ~6" higher.
