Hello Terry,

I recently had my transmission oil and filter changed. I believe you must use the Mopar fluid or its equviliant. I know it synthetic. You might want to go to the dealer and get it flushed and re-filled.

Yeah...you put the wrong fluid in. Our tranny's run like sh!t without the right fluid... for a 99 you should only use ATF +4 or Amsoil ATF.

ATF +3 is sufficient and it what it calls for. Advance sells the cheaper stuff if you don't want to buy the expensive Mopar route.

Thanks for the advice guys on the fluid i,m gonna change it this weekend. Now i have more problems to tell ya about. When i was traveling over the holidays my nice shiny silver dakota was hit by a taxi cab in the left front wheel at 60 mph.Not much body damage but shattered and bent my front steering axle draining all my fluid and the fun out of my trip. 800 bucks plus labor to replace.Well i finally made it back on the road three weeks later but my wheel on the side i was hit is making a noise like a tire rubbing on wheel well but i checked and theres nothing. But nows heres the real kicker. Two weeks later i get my locking gas cap broke open and two gallons of water and who knows what else poured down my tank. You got it. Stranded again in the big d.Well i got that prob fixed dealer drained my tank and put a new fuel pump on and cleaned the injectors but my truck still has no power hardly at all and it misses a lot and the new pump makes a high pitch noise when runing. Also the engine squeaks when it starts cold like belt slipping and and has a clicking sound like the valves and lifters are bad or something. Its also using a lot more gas than it used to before this happened.Well i,m gonna let ya chew on this stuff for awhile so maybee you can give me some advice on what else has been ruined by the water and the wreck.

Since 1999, due to the special requirements of their automatic transmissions, Chrysler has recommended a unique ATF+4 formulation. In addition, Chrysler has been recommending ATF+4 for all previous makes and models of Chrysler Corporation vehicles.

AMSOIL Synthetic ATF exceeds the performance specifications for Chrysler ATF+, +2, +3, and +4 as well as MS-7176 A, B, C, D, & E; MS-9602 A, B, & C. as well as Ford Mercon or General Motors Dexron III applications. AMSOIL Synthetic ATF is available in quarts, quart cases, twin packs, 30-gallon and 55-gallon drums.

Excluding minivans 1999 and older (per a service bulletun dated sometime in 2001 I think). They found these transmissions to have an unusual break-in period shudder that they fear too many owners may become overly concerned, although the shudder is harmless. They continue to recommend the use of ATF+3 for these transmissions.
