Subject: do new mufflers have a breakin period?

i just got a flowmaster 50 series delta flow and was wondering if mufflers have a break in period. also, sense this muffler should gain me some hp and mileage over my stock muffler there must be a difference in back pressure, therefore, will my pcm need a couple hundred miles to adjust?

Yes they do. A muffler has to get a coating of exhaust deposits stuck to the inside of it. it almost acts as an insulation and gives it a slightly deeper more mellow tone. Typicially this takes about a thousand miles, and thats about how long my flow took.

Also yes the Computer will need time to adjust. if you would like to force it to adjust just remove your battery cable then turn your healights on to kill any energy stored in resistors, then bolt everything back up and take it for a drive forcing the computer to relearn everything with the muffler on.

Brand new mufflers have more of a metallic/ringing sound than later on. As carbon builds up, a deeper, mellower tone will occur. This is after several thousand miles, of course.
