5.7L HEMI "MAGNUM" V-8: will get Multiple Displacement System for 2006:

The 2006 Dodge Ram will have huge changes. Lets start with the powertrain changes. The 5.7L HEMI "MAGNUM" V-8 will return throughout the Ram pickup lineup, however you will see a huge change in the performance of this engine. First off, the engine will recieve the same treatment that the car version of the 5.7L HEMI V-8 (2005 Dodge Magnum and 2005 Chrysler 300) with the introduction of MDS or Multiple Displacement System, which will turn the V-8 into a gas saving V-4 in 40 milliseconds at crusing speed, improving gas mileage by almost 5 mpg in the city. A big rumor is that the 5.7L HEMI "MAGNUM" V-8 will recieve additional horsepower from the factory making it have an additional 5 horsepower (350) and another 10 ft-lbs of torque (385) by tweaking the computer. This is so Dodge can brag about having the best torque in class over the 5.6L "ENDURANCE" V-8 by Nissan.

3.7L "MAGNUM" V-6 and 4.7L "MAGNUM" V-8 news has been quiet. However, expect the V-6 not to get the MDS option by the 4.7L to have it available by mid-year 2006 or early 2007. No word in improving power in either of these engines as of yet. Sources have said that the 4.7L HO (High Output) "MAGNUM" V-8 available in the 2005 Dodge Dakota will not be available in the Ram platform, I personally hope this is wrong, and they do put it in the 1500 series lineup.

Also in the pipe line, is the release of a new Mercedes Benz 6-speed automatic transmission for the 5.7L and 6.1L HEMI "MAGNUM" V-8s. Altough this is a rumor, Mercedes has just released a new 7-speed automatic for their car lineup, and with a 6-speed automatic, the Ram HEMI lineup would gain even greater MPG. It would be a basic 4-speed automatic w/ two seperate overdrive gears. Will we have to wait further on this one, to know if it is true or not. But I don't see nothing wrong with the current 545REF automatic tranny.

Also here is a glimps of the new 06 Ram pick truck.

Alright, lets talk exterior changes. The Ram lineup first off, will get new tailights, similar to those on the 2005 Dodge Dakota. Rumor has had it that they will change the grille design, similar to that of the 2004+ Durango and 2005 Dakota ones, which have a horiziontal shape to them. Someone on another website, saying they were an insider said Rams with the Laramie package will get new HID headlamps, altough it is highly doubtful. Another place to expect huge changes is the bed area, with more of a deep groove look to them. Wheels are another feature expected to change, expect new wheel designs, a new set of 20" rims as well as 17" rims. Two rumors have been said about wheels as well. One rumor has the Ram 1500 s with available 22" rims, however you will more than likely not see this since the Ram SRT-10 has 22" rims, and that is Dodge's image truck, and they don't want any regular Ram to carry their flagship's wheels. The second is the upgrade from 17" rims to 18" rims, like those on the 2004 Ford F-150. One more exterior feature you will see, is the "Mega Cab", an actual crew cab by Dodge, that will have a little more room behind the back seats, for more comfort and to store objects

All I have to say is that DC is on the wrong track if they are
planning on a re-design of the RAM.

Designing the RAM to look like a "BIG" Dakota would be a fatal
mistake.

The 05' Dakota is "BUTT UGLY" and it is not "Growing On Me"
like the local Dodge dealer told me that it would and neither
would a "BUTT UGLY RAM".

It looks like DODGE is going to "UGLY UP" all of it's trucks.

I was going to say the same thing.

Making the trucks U-G-L-Y and I'd REALLY hate to see how they mucker up the simple OHC system of the beloved 4.7 with that MSD bullsheet!

Remember how easy it was to change your 4.7 camshafts??? Not with MSD it wont!

It would HAVE to have some selenoids and most likely some hydrolic powered deals (oil pressure) to de activate valves and what not.

Cadillac failed horribly at the system in the '80's

I'm even MORE certain I'll be keeping my '03 for years to come!

The 4.7L H.O. offered in the previous model Jeep Grand Cherokee is rated at 265hp/325lb-ft. The 4.7L H.O. offered in the new Dak is rated at 250/300. What gives? Did Dodge de-tune the 4.7L for some reason or are they just understating the actual numbers?

I gess Rich Idiot (you'll notice we posted his last name under my post) just can't gather up the information like we can..)

If you look at the image just right. You'll notice that Dodge is wanting there full-size trucks to have more of a "FRIGHTLINER" look. This I think would be awfull. The big mack look was ok but now its getting rediculous. Also on more thing about this Maga Cab. Do you really need a cab so big you can sleep in it?? They should just call it a sleeper cab.

mrman: they've got the actual numbers in the 05 Dakota brochure. The HO gets 260 HP @ 5200 RPM and 310 lb-ft @ 3500 RPM. Going from the brochure's chart the torque curve is similar to but slightly above the std. output 4.7 until about 4200 RPM when the standard engine falls off harder than the HO. The HP curve stays within about 10 HP of the standard 4.7 till that engine hits its peak of 230 @ 4400.

So I was like, well at least the Ram still looks freakin great. Now I look at that picture. Jesus im mad. It looks like a big new Dak. Look at the headlights!!!!!!!!!! dang I'm mad at dodge for ruining the ram look! Usually ill buy a better vehicle compared to a worse one that looks better, but that is just rediculous. I Cant buy a new Dodge truck anymore. I hope tyhe design flops big time and they loose sells liek crazy to make them learn a lesson. I've seen so many Colorado's and new Tacoma,s and not one new Dakota yet, not one!... the only one i saw ever was the rtental car we got for a day was a new Dak. I've seen a few Dakotas going here and there.. But not as many as the Rangers. You see more full-size trucks than any of the midsizers.

To be honest I don't see many Colorado's either..

I personally like that look, but hate the new Dak/Dur look. What I'm seeing is that the grille stayed vertical, where as the new Dak/Dur grilles are laid back like a minivan (yick!!).

The cab, on the other hand, is far to big. People are forgetting all about the real benefit of a truck, its bed (which has been getting shorter and shorter lately) and looking at interior room...buy a friggin' minivan if you want interior space!!!

Many of my family members ask why I didn't buy a QC Dak...its simple, you can't put squat in a 5'3" bed. Sure itworks perfect for some people, but not for me as I like to haul quads from time to time, fire wood and the like.
