 Subject: Decode VIN Number?

Is there a free web site that will decode a VIN number like the dealer can? I have used the one's that give the basic info, but they don't tell you what transmission, rear end, etc.

The VIN doesn't contain information regarding the options the vehicle was built with other than the engine. The rest of it contains information regarding GVW, assembly country and plant, vehicle type, model year, 4x2 - 4x4, number of doors, trim level (sport, slt, etc.), and assembly sequence.
When the lookup is done at the dealer a database lookup is performed using your VIN to access a set of information they have saved with all the build codes for your vehicle.
