Subject: Ball joint recall only on 4X4?!?!
IP: Logged

Message:
anyone else peeved about dodge wimping out and recalling balljoints on the 4X4 models only? I've had two R/T's to date.. and both had ball joint failures (wheels didn't fall off luckily) within 40K miles. don't they use the same parts for the upperball J's on both types? I'd be really pi$$ed off if I hadn't already ordered my new moogs prior to the recall.

Got my notification of extended warranty this week. Its for my 01 R/T. I put the paperwork in the glove box so its handy for when I need to cash in on the FREE work by the dealer. I'm not upset, I'm happy.

My 4X4 was built in 01/2003 so it's not included in the recall. Hope that means I've got improved ball joints vs. the problematic ones that they tell me I have.

Dave, don't giive up so fast. You may be able to find a dealer willing to help you out since you are not so far out of warranty. i had a dealer cover stuff for me just out of warranty mileage wise. just don't go to them with an attitude. it's only 8k miles out. all they can do is say no. you may even try DC customer service.

Since the recall doesn't go back to the 98 models - does that mean the 98's had different ball joints and are ok? Or does that mean that the 98's are to old to recall in the Fed's and DC's eyes?

The vehicle is not too old to recall. The design is similar enough to be considered for investigation for the same possible failure. I have heard there is currently continued investigation involving earlier than 2000 year models, but I have no clue as to the status of that investigation.

The yahoos at the the national traffic safety have concluded 97-00 studies to focus on recent, newer model failures. The crap pdf that I was sent says the change in bj manu was only from x date to x date, thus earlier years were not an issue. Try telling that to the thousands who have problems exactly the same. On the same page they wrote that the cause of my failure was by water infiltration into the nongreasable joint, thus causing premature failure. That pretty much says they werent build to be driven by anyone and put in museums in order to last any amount of time. I was sent an email telling me so from a one Michael Jordan at the institute.
I also am stuck with a faulty truck that DC wont do anything about. Lucky me, I had a shop rpl them with napa joints, that are lifetime, yet they fail every 30000, and then I get to tear it apart for the 4th time. ( I asked for greasable ones, but was told I was lucky just to get them replaced, because at the time, dodge was just rpling the whole upper a-arm. That says alot about DC.) Junk. I have seen the last of dodge stealerships until they make it right with me. I drive highway miles with no load, and grease with amsoil every 1000. Even amsoil cant save me on something that cant be greased. Toy trucks have nongreaseable uppers, and last a long, long time. Poor design no matter what. And yes, ive had the bushings all rpled with poly, and put numerouus times on a rack, just to have a crap front end, and get horrible gas mileage. I have gained so much info from this awesome site, and hope to one day say something good about my truck, such as its sold. But then I would have to pass a junker on to someone else and try to have a clean conscience. impossible
ps. My edelbrock ias shocks failed 2 days into their use, let all teh oil from one onto my driveway, and they are like fighting Mike Tyson(early mike) to get to make it right.
Stock truck, no changes except crap ride, bad bjs, broken infinity, broken seat recline, popping comig from sterring column, popping coming from cab, torque converter hits hard after sitting for a night, timing chain slap, pan gasket air leak, front bumper needed painting immediatly, then when off warranty again(but right this time by someone other then stealership)....the list goes on.....all fixable problems, but why should I when it was this way new, let alone take my fragile 4x4 off road.
But heh, my floor mats from my old truck are still keeping the floors dry.

Obviously you work for DC or edelbrock in some way or another, and will lie to protect your inherent right for YOUR free speech. I was critiquing a product as opposed to insulting a person through an uninspired, superfluous ruse. Yet, thanks for respecting my rights as a consumer, and obvious reader.
Now dealing with your obvious selfish nature; do you think I care about your opinion, I was informing and providing the thread about the topic, none of which you did in your hijack of this thread. I wont waste anyone else time with this jacka$s. If you wanna go on another thread and debate intellectually, ok, but this is for people who were excluded from a TRUCK recall.
ANyhow, if anyone would like a copy of the report, id be happy to furnish it, again. I emailed the complaint to them approx a year ago and they replyed 4 months later. Ill just post a link to them in the morning.

If you spent as much time searching this site as you do belly-aching about what's going on in your own precious little world, you would see that the bulk of my posts are very informative and factual, including the topic of this recall. The problem I have with you and others like you is that you want someone to feel what you are feeling instead of just knowing what you know (like the majority of grown adults). Sharing information is a good thing. But, much like what you said about my post, I'll quote about yours, "do you think I care about your opinion"? You came here with little or no new factual information, threw around your opinions of DC, Edelbrock and Dodge Dakota pick-up trucks and then expect that no one will poke back at you with some sarcasm?

"Obviously you work for DC or edelbrock..."
If you look around on this site you will see that lots of folks are becoming weary of the belly-aching, not just those of us who "obviously" work for DC or edelbrock.

"...and will lie..."
Nothing I have stated could give you that impression. You know nothing of my character. Don't comment as if you do.

"I was critiquing a product..."
No, you were belly-aching about the one that you purchased and how it appears it has crushed your fragile expectations that yours is not allowed to fail.

"...insulting a person through an uninspired, superfluous ruse..."
Try again, it's called sarcasm, not an insult. I have not and will not call anyone a name such as "jacka$s" like you have lowered yourself to do, especially in a forum like this that you should not take personally.

"...obvious selfish nature..."
Nope, incorrect again. See sarcasm above.

"...I was informing and providing the thread about the topic..."
Poor use of the English language. More importantly though, you have added nothing useful that has not already been repeatedly posted (which you could have easily found had you spent a bit of time searching).

"If you wanna go on another thread and debate intellectually..."
I have, and so have the majority of regular visitors of this site. See above about searching the site.

"I wont waste anyone else time"
You have done so by your failure to thoroughly search this site.

"...this is for people who were excluded from a TRUCK recall..."
I have a Dakota truck that is excluded from this recall. BTW, people are not excluded from the reall, vehicles are.

Darn it, I am missing the 10:00 news for this?
