Subject: fuel guage sending unit
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a '95 5.2l 4x4 in which the fuel guage has stopped working. I understand this is a fairly common problem and usually requires a new sending unit.

Is there anything I can check to verify this?

Can I replace the unit or is it a giant hassle?

Thanks,

JF

The fuel pump, filter, and sending unit are 1 piece. Id take a look at the wiring from the tank on before trying to replace it. Also... make sure its not the dash that is the problem.... there is a way to test the dash without a scanner.... i cant remember the steps but if i come across them ill post again ..

I found the way to test the dash.
1. Press and hold the odometer/Trip button
2. Turn the ket to the start position.
3. Keep holding the button for at least 10 seconds
You will see a CHEK in the odometer box
All the lights will come on gauges will rise up first 1/4 then 1/2 then 3/4 then full.....

I take it that is for the 97+ Dakotas with the electric odometer.
