Anybody else notice the difference in the ST8 oil filters now on WallyWorld's shelves? The in/out ports are redesigned, the capacity has been reduced, and they cost more! The box still says Champion Labs, but it's definately a different looking filter.

I use the Wally world, super tech brand. I read on here they were a pretty good filter.
Along with Mobly one10-w30.

I have heard that the overseas version of Super Tech filters suffer from quality control issues. To be safe I would make sure it`s stamped "Made In The USA" on the filter.

Walmart's Supertech is manufactured by Champion Labs - as is Mobil1, K&N, AC Delco DuraGuards (two different types) for USA, Bosch Premium, STP, Ultraguard Gold, Deutch & Luberfiner
Walmart's Supertech (often referred to as SuperTech or Super Tech) is a decent filter (for the price). I got the word straight from Champion that the SuperTech is a 20 micron filter -- that means the Supertech is a good filter for the price -- not a great filter for the price. There is always a tradeoff in price vs. quality.
Wal-Mart buys in such quantities, that they can negotiate good prices with their suppliers. I'm sure Champion was quite pleased to enter into a deal which allows Wal-Mart to sell these filters for $2+/-, when it allows Champion to make enough of these private label oil filters to stock every Wal-Mart in the US.
For under $2, the Supertech filter is very well constructed for all who might be interested. If it were my engine, I would pay more for better protection.

Oil Filters for Various Budgets:
Most people are seeking the best filter in the $5 range.
A $5 filter:
If your budget is a $5 filter, then Bosch Super Premium or Wix. Reasons: Top notch construction, good filtering, and good flow. (The PureOne is in this price range too, but I've got issues with restricted flow in the PureOne because of the densely packed media.)

A $7 Filter:
If a slightly higher price is okay - might I recommend Amsoil SDF oil filters, and yes a bit over $5 at the $7 level (Amsoil Preferred Customer Price). Well constructed. Strong. Helpful Information for Picking An Oil Filter:
The order of the BEST MEDIA in a oil filter:
1) synthetic -
2) fiberglass - it is second because fiberglass has to be
held together with glues and therefore decreases flows
3) cellulose - if this get water in it it will bubble up and restrict flow.
Blended filtration media composed of synthetic, cellulose and fiberglass fibers are usually the best.

YOU NEED A BALANCE BETWEEN FLOW AND FILTRATION
FILTRATION
It seems that engine wear gets worse when there are particles above 5 micron particles not being filtered out of the system. GM has done studies where the wear became very great at around 30 microns. On the flip-side, Mobil did tests in 1995 where they ran a number of vehicles at 7.5K oil changes and 15K oil changes on filters that would have been in the 25 micron range. The vehicles went 200K with very little wear. So it would seem that filters that grab most of the 15-20 micron particles whould be OK. I know this is not very scientific.
It really depends on the clearances in your engine. An engine such as my neighbors LT1, which is a small block Chevy as far as the bottom end is concerned, has large clearances so a 20 micron particle won't harm it as much as it would on a much tighter engine such as many DOHC 4 cylinder imports. So in other words, it's different in every case.

In theory, reducing wear particles to 0 is optimum but in the real world of automobile engines it doesn't work.
What good does filtering out for instance .5 (1/2) microns ... 100% of the time ... but causing wear by interupting oil flow to the bearings.

If you are concerned, perform a Used Oil Analysis and see for yourself what is the PPM range in your engine ... for all the major metals (iron, lead, alumn, copper).

FLOW
FLOW IS ... AS IMPORTANT, maybe ... MORE IMPORTANT ... than FILTRATION. Many filters have good filtration and terrible flow.

I generally despise people like Will. If it was that bad to work there, why would anyone work there? Will, you're nothing more than a socialist. Where else would an "undereducated" or old person work? Do they deserve a high paying union job? F@*K NO!
I dont particularly care for Wal-Mart, but they offer excellent prices on good products in a generally clean store. If someone else offered me this, I would be glad to shop there. But right now, thats where I get my Mopar oil filters.

I know a few people that work for Wal-Mart and they are making 15-16 bucks an hour, I wouldn't say that's too bad. They work in a warehouse, its cold in the winter, and hot in the summer, but they do have some good benifits, reguardless of what the commies, I mean democrats say.

Does Wal-Mart sell crack whores? Are they my neighbor? ...
I'm sure Wal-Mart is a little sleazy, but what company isn't? If it's that bad to work there, then quit. If you dont have the skills necessary to leave to a better job, then be thankful for the job you have. I've worked far crappier jobs than Wal-Mart and it was just motivation to move on to bigger and better things. I do not look down on anyone for working there because I've had jobs just like that if not worse.
This is a CAPITALIST society, so the best business wins. If you do not support this, then please move to a socialist country. Wal-Mart is one of the best run companies in the world. Period. They have a right to every dollar they make and can continue to make more. If you dont like it, start a store to challenge them and put your name on the building.

for walmart to expand, they went into small towns and bougt the local banks. then they called the retail customers and shut of their accounts (lines of credit) which shut down 100's of mom-and-pop stores. then walmart rolled in with their big box stores and trucks. SAD
