Subject: Had Balljoints replaced under Recall

Message:
Called the local dealership on Tuesday in response to recall letter. They said balljoints were on national backorder and they didn't expect to be able to make any appointments until June. I called the dealership 8 miles down the road and they said bring it in Thursday and they could do it. So I did. Then I got a call from the dealership letting me know that the lower balljoints needed replaced also. I told them I'd take care of it. Then I called Dodge Corporate customer service and explained to them that, w/ 50k miles on the truck, it's likely (per my experience and vehicle dynamics classes) that the oscillation created by the upper balljoints having too much play caused (at least in part) the failure in the lower balljoints. After being all hold for a few minutes, he told me to replace them then send them the invoice and they'd take care of it. Good news - yes. Bad news - these jagoffs have way too many crummy parts on their trucks. I shouldn't be replacing balljoints (for the second time) at 50k miles. What a riot.

Unless I am mistaken, they are correcting the problem and you are still belly-aching?

Ya, that's it exactly Jason B. Thanks for tuning in. To add to this fiasco, I got the truck home and took the front wheels off because dealerships notoriously torque down the lugnuts incorrectly. Sure enough. On each wheel, two lug nuts torqued to 200 ft-lbs, two to 100 ft-lbs, and two barely finger tight. Wonderful. Maybe if I got a quality product and decent service for my money, I wouldn't belly ache. I do no belly-aching whatsoever over my motorcycle. Oh, and also, I checked the lower ball-joints .... THEY'RE FINE!!!!! I wonder how many people come in for a recall and end up paying $1000 for new bottom balljoints unnecessarily. What a riot!!!
