Subject: 2 k&n's: drop-in vs ebay cone/tube

time to change my air filter, thinking about other options.
i live in the desert in southern california, 120 in the summer, 65 in the winter, lots of stop and go, currently using a purolator paper drop-in.

drop-in k&n costs about $50.
ebay intake tube and solid k&n cone costs about $75. (auction here)

worth the extra $25 to get a new tube and go to a solid (not the open-ended one) cone filter?
or should i stick with a drop-in?

both options are k&n.
i don't want to build my own intake - no time for new projects right now.
:)

thoughts? reccomendations? stick with the paper for the sandy desert air?

thanks!

You need to find someone that has tried both.
I use the K&N drop in myself. To tell you the
truth I never bothered to compair the paper over
the K&N. Just thought it would be better.

Jeff, I think I'm your neighbor, I'm in the desert too(Bermuda Dunes)

I had a drop in K&N and felt almost no difference in performance, I recently installed a 360 Air Intake system: http://www.360airintakez.com/cgi-bin/cp-app.cgi

A little more low end power followed. It's a bit more expensive plus they just raised the price on this particular system, but it was well worth it. It's a lot louder (beleive it or not) and has a HUGE K&N filter and tube.

If you want to check it out e-mail me I could meet you somewhere.

My K&N fipk on an '03 4.7 is annoyingly loud. Especially when going uphill. It would be unbearable when towing I would think.

Has anyone added the mopar underhood pad? I wonder if it would help?
