140,000 kms on tranny, shifts too smooth. Would fluid change and band adjustment make the shifts crisper/firmer? Thanks.

Yes.
Bands a *little* tighter (like, factory spec instead of worn). Also, Larry has mentioned before how to boost the line pressure by dropping the pan and turning a screw out up to 1/2 turn by the front left of the valve body.
