Hey guys, for the past 2 days when I have started my 00 CC 4x4 4.7 i have had a weird noise right when it starts for a second. I have no clue what it is but i know its coming from the front of the truck and it only does it right when it fires up then stops. Only mods I have is a K&N FIPK Gen2.

What kind of noise is it? On really cold mornings I get a zipping type noise(only way I can describe it) for a split second when I start it and then it goes away.

Chryslers are famous for belt whine and alternator noise on very cold starts not to mention valve taps.

It's the power steering pump,it will squeel when it is very cold out.I have a 03 Liberty does the same thing, the dealership changed the power steering fluid to ATF+4.But it is still doing it,only when it's very cold out.

It might be the flex plate where ur engine meets ur transmission.... It's something ive seen a lot and it might just be the case here. Only on start up right? Have you taken it past 5k RPM? if you have and it makes the noise, more than likely it is the flex plate. Might be worth checking

I've had the same noise since my truck was new, 2000 Dak 4.7 4X4. It only happens when it's very cold outside and it does sound like a zipping noise.
It only makes the noise as soon as the motor starts for a split second.

Mine used to always do this until I started using the block heater on really cold nights.

If it only did it once I would figure a cat in the fan belt. But they make more of a screeching noise. Fun to clean up too. Especially if they make a few revs before they get flung. Probably the bendix on your starter motor.

I had one that didn't make any noise when he got lunched. Drove 20 miles to work with cat chunks on the headers. Smelled like a Chinesse restraunt when I opened the hood. Your noise is probably the bendix on your starter motor.

I would say its your power stering pump... mine whines for maybe 1 seocnd when its really cold out...

You can tell if it's your PS pump, by turning the wheel... if your steering is excessively stiff (and it makes the noise when you turn the wheel) then the fluid is just cold and thick.... once it circulates a little bit, it thins out and flows better... I personally am not worried about it, but this summer I am changing the fluid to ATF+4..

You guys ever pin this down officially? Anyone
have a recording? I can force mine to do it by
not plugging in the block heater at night, but
would rather not if someone else has it recorded
already.

Thanks all!

Sam
