Subject: Popping Noise...?

On my 2001 Dakota Reg Cab 4x4 that I just got about a week ago, I've heard this weird "pop" about 4 or 5 times now.

It sounds almost like a rock hitting the windshield and it always comes from the passenger side. Twice, when someone else was in it, they started looking around to see if someone threw a rock at it, but no one's there.

Anyone ever hear of something like this or is it possible that my tires are just kicking up rocks often and every now and then it hits the glass? -- I have no mud flaps and twice when it happened I was only going about 3 or 4 miles per hour and once about 25.

I also thought it was something to do with AC, but it happened tonight while it was off. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Don't fear the "pop" - it's just the layers (glass - adhesive - poly film - adhesive - glass) of the SAFE-T glass expanding/contracting at slightly different rates.

Hi, Dave...

And here I thought it was me :-) I get the same "popping" noise in my 2000 Dakota. At first, like you, I figured the windshield was getting hit with rocks, but never could find any evidence of that. Then I figured it must be the dashboard plastic popping. Thanks Tony for clearing it up for us both.

David
