After reading this it appears this will only apply to the people with 4 wheel drive what about the people without four wheel drive? Did they use the same ball joints on the two wheel drive vehicles?

Recall notices only pertain to vehicles being recalled. The 2wd vehicles that will have extended upper ball joint warranty will have a separate notification. So far, I have been unable to find any of this info (10/100 warranty) on the DC tech website. Should be available soon.

I had heard, but can not yet confirm, the new supplier to be New Castle Machining and Forge.

Hmmm...
New Castle made the ones that are high-failure items... I hope they're not making the replacements.

The illustrations in the PDF posting (good link, Andrew!) show the new joints without grease fittings on top... here we go again, I think. I'm gonna stay with aftermarket ones, and fix it right.

The investigation by the NHTSA has determined the potential for surprise separation of the upper ball joint is limited to those included in the recall.
If the recall included others, it would simply be DC paying for a repair of a failed part, no different than a water pump or intake gasket. They won't recall all suspension failures.

My truck is an 01 4x4 included in the recall. I wound up having a shop replace the ball joints since the dealer would not without charging me and using the same sh1t. NOW it is being recalled. Can I submit my receipt for reimbursement??

According to the recall notice at the bottom of the PDF, it says that if you paid to have this fixed, mail the receipts to an address and you will be reimbursed for the cost.

If it is the same junky ball joint, then at least the dealer has done most of the hard work for me by grinding and chiseling off the rivets. If the ball joints start to go, it will be an easier replacement with Moogs.

Need recall for 4 x 2's also!!!

Aloha dudes and duddettes,

I really think we need a recall for the 4 x 2's also. I have changed mines before the warranty expired because the dealer said that they did not see anything wrong with my truck's suspension. So I took it upon myself to change both bottom and top/passenger and driver balljoints of my 2000 Dodge Dakota V6 3.9L. I know my truck so after I switched the balljoints the ride was smoother and awesome.

Is there any way Chrysler could reimburse me for what I did? Any how if anyones gets a hold of a recall PDF for a 2000 Dodge Dakkota 4 x 2 a whole bunch of us will be very VERY happy!! Thanks in advance.....

Mahalo,
Scotty
