I have a 2001 Dak with 4000 miles on it.

This past weekend, while I 2was installing an amp under the passenger seat, what do I find???? WATER!!!! about 2 " of it to be exact... Well, needless to say I was a bit pissed off. I owned a 92 GMC Sonoma that had a water problem, but didnt expect it in a 26,000 dollar truck....Well after ripping out the entire passenger side of my Dak, I found it to be coming fromm the weather stripping above the passenger door. A little bit of black silicone in there and I hope its fixed now.

This is total Bulldoody in my book.
Anyway, Ive heard of guys having the same problem. Ihope this helps you out.
Dodge Quality...gotta love it

Hey, thanks for the info.

I've got a 97 SLT 4x4, and a week ago I was giving it a spring cleaning, only to find my passenger side floor soaked. kept on digging, found major puddle under the rug. It's been drying for a week now, but when we get rain, it's back at it.

Seems to be running down beside the seat and puddling up front. I'm starting my search and your info is appreciated.

As for Dodge quality, that's my only beef thus far, bought the truck new and it's been great. Except for the console that folds in the middle seat. It kept breaking when I had the truck new (plastic would snap if somebody bumped it from backseat in winter). They replaced the whole console with a newer model, and it's been fine since.

Good luck, hope you enjoy your's as much as I have

I know how you feel, I had A water leak that took the dealership two months to find.
I would have water drip from the head liner above the rear view mirror.finally found water getting in from the rails above the side windows on the club cab and going to the front of the cab and drip on the dash.

It seems to be, the GEN 2 trucks have two sheets of metal in the roof of the cab. There are only two places that are not sealed ( welded )are the front windshield and the seam ( or rail )above the side windows on the club cab.
When it would rain water would get in through the seam and go between the metal sheets and fill up then come out by the rear view mirror.

Ah ha.. That explains the leak at the rear view mirror on my 91. I checked the stripping arounf the iwndshield and its ok. Is the source the stripping around the club cab windows? or where??

Seems as though there are quite a few dakotas with leaky cabs. I have a 93 super LE. For years I parked in the same place on my driveway,NO Leaks. Had a bump to the drivers side, now leaks on the passenger side. Glass installers ran water all over the cab and could not make it leak. The body shop ran water over the cowl, blew out the drains.didn't work. Still leaks when it rains. water puddles up in the floor on the drivers side.

Their is a body seam by the ac air intake in the cowl area. You have to remove the black cowl cover to get to it. I used epoxy on a long stick to cover the seam, it's just to the outside edge of the ac air intake, then sprayed it with undercoating. Dealer couldn't or wouldn't fix it so I had to. There are more posts about this seam leak, so just search if you need to knon more. Good luck.

I ran into the "water in cab" problem in my 02.
It was under warranty at the time but the A/C drain tube was not big enough to drain water from a rain. With the sun shining and A/C on, I never got one drop of water inside the truck. as soon as it rained the passenger side floor board would flood. It would do it also if I went through a car wash.
The dealer replaced the drain hose and rerouted it. Originally it dumped into a channel on the back side of a heatshield.

After weeks of my 2000 sport club cab passenger side floorboard getting soaked, and failed attempts to find the problem... I finally found the source. Of course this required my removing both seats, all the rear paneling....etc.etc. But the two air baffels mounted on the back wall were leaking, and water would pool in the back....when I parked at an angle, it would run forward and soak the front carpet. The dealer wanted $35 a piece for new ones, whereby I prompty told him to shove it.....and bought a $3 tube of mildew resistent sealant. Worked like a charm. Hope this helps.

We have a 2002 Dodge Dakota SLT.
After driving it for two and one half years, one day we noticed the passengers side mats were soaken wet. After lifting the carpet we had a swimming pool on the floor.
Being still under warantee we notified our dealer and the first of several visits to try and trace it began each time thinking that maybe it had been fixed.Door seals, window seals body seams and the a/c vent hose all have been checked but still the leak goes on.
Back again soon for another visit, maybe this time we will be luckey.
The upper ball joints have already been replaced(25000 kms.) just prior to the general recall on this vechicle.
Chrysler's,you gotta love them,$26000.00 dollars worth.

I saw a neat trick on a weekend car show this weekend. Roll the windows down, fold a dallar bill in half, open the door and put the folded bill in between the seal and door, close door and slide the bill through the seal to find loose spots where the bill will slide freely. Once you find a spot; there is this black sticky stuff that you shape into a roll about the diameter of a pencil and stick it behind the seal which pushes the seal out.

I'm not sure what the stuff was called or where to get it but it looked like it worked. It almost looked like a black window putty so maybe autoglass shops or auto parts shops.

I've got at least one leak that whistles when I drive on the highway so I'm going to try and find the stuff soon.

My '93 Dakota also has the passenger side leak. This seems so
bad that you'd think Chrysler would have done a recall... maybe
recalls are only for safety issues. Anyway, I'm glad I found this
forum; I tried caulking this morning around the door seals,
window, everywhere I could think that water might be coming in.
I haven't been able to find where yet, but it is not A/C because it
only leaks when raining, not A/C condensate. Now, I'll wait on
rain (which probably won't be long this summer in GA) to see if I
got it stopped.
