Well, I smacked a barrier on the interstate and spun my 00 CC a couple of times. It looks like it's going to total out since the repairs are over 6K, 3/4 of front end, bed side, etc. The truck has over 100K so the insurance company is surely going to skrew me on the value, (paid 14K 2-3 years ago) even though the truck was in excellent condition before the accident, straight body and mechanically sound.

Since the truck runs great I was thinking of paying the salvage, keeping the truck and repairing the damage, but don't know if it's going to be worth it. I am guessing the parts will run $2-3K. I checked a couple of yards around here and it's going to be tough getting used parts. Anyone have experience with aftermarket parts (fender, hood, bumper, etc) for the Dakota's? I tried using aftermarket parts years ago and they fit poorly.

Maybe it's time for another Dak, any thoughts?

Certainly look into fixing it. I had my 93 totaled in 98 and sold it to a guy(cheap) who straightened the frame and put on a new fender. I still see it driving around today. I haven't had a decent truck since then. My 97 dak doesn't mach up to it. But there is something to be said for a new truck too.

Yeah this pretty much sucks. I figure if I keep the truck I might get enough to pay off it off and fix it myself. Value of the truck might be nothing if the title gets branded salvage though. On the other hand if I let it go I will be lucky to get $9-10K for it, that's $4-5K being towed to the scrap yard.

Guess I'll have to wait and see what the insurance company comes up with.

You'd be surprised what can be fixed. There's a difference between what your insurance company or an average person that cant do body repairs considers not worth fixing, and what is actually unfixable. My grandfather had two different body shops tell him his 89 Civic was totalled when it had 100K on the clock. HE found what he needed in a junkyard, did the work on it himself, and it ran fine for another 150K.

Problem is youll have a branded title and you car will be worth 0$ so your gonna dump at least 5k for paint/repairs and have a car worth nothing. Not worth it man find yourself a 04 left on the lots and dump a nice chucnk downpayment into it.

Yeah, both options don't look as good as what I had before the accident.

Choice #1 dump $2000 of the $4000 settlement into the old CC Dak getting it road worthy and drive it until it drops. I'm not going to fix everything as it would be a waste of money fixing everything on a truck with a salvage title (heck I bet I could get another 100K out of it until things started going south). Pros; I know the truck is dependable, no truck payment and no full coverage insurance. Con's; I'll be driving a truck with some body damage and no resale value. This doesn't realy bother me as I drive the heck out of it for work anyway.

Choice #2 get a low mileage 02-03 QC and be into a car payment and full coverage insurance for another 5 years.

I guess it all depends on what the salvage value of the truck comes to, Decisions, Decisions,,,
