Today 12/10/04 on KOVR Channel 13 News (Sacramento) aired a bad roll over reck involving a Dodge Dakota with wife a kids that could have killed them all. The report announced that the truck went into a rollover and the driver can't explain what happen. Investigations gave reason to believe that it had to do with right side ball joint. There were numerous other complaints like one woman pulled into her drive way and her Durango front end buckled on the right side. Dodge has commented that when they do routine inspections and they haven't encountered any problems with front ends or ball joints, BUT it sees there are alot of complaints that their not reporting leaving people at chance of severe accidents. I would like to include myself and husband in this because we were on our way to San Francisco and our 2002 Dodge Dakota suddenly took off to the right and almost threw us into a roll over accident. My husband (45 years old) and has never had a ticket saved us by not over correcting the vehicle. This happened to us twice. We took the truck to Folsom Lake Dodge, CA and they made a stupid comment that my husband must have had a few drinks. I got IRATE and told them to keep the truck until they figure this out. They claimed nothing wrong with the vehicle (Go FIGURE). The news reported a definite class action lawsuit against Chrystler. Stay safe Dodge Folks!
Aloha!

My experience is that the DCX Dealership Service department will not diagnose bad ball joints under warranty. They will find any cause that they can charge labor for. Alignment, wheel balance, rotate, brakes etc. Then I suspect they needle a little grease into the joint and away you go $45.00 lighter and so much the dumber.

If you argue that the joints are bad they will argue that the joints don't go bad.

"Nah, pfff...couldn't happen!" (Will Smith mode)

I recently took 02 in under warranty and my dealer didn't even think twice about running me around on ball joint replacment...they did only replace the upper right for now, but I'm gonna make another trip in and have them replace the upper left also.

Its my understanding that the lowers are much less susceptible to wear than the uppers.

Of course the Dakota and Durango aren't "real cars" you goof -- they're freaking trucks, body on frame and everything.
