Anyone from Rochester, NY that has a trustworthy mechanic that knows Dakotas? Would like mine checked by someone that knows problems related to Dakotas. I am a bit of a hypochondriac and am hearing noises now on my 97. Thanks.

This may help. I was having problems with mine, couldn't find anyone to provide answers. One place told me I needed a new engine. I found a place that was listed on jasper engine's home page. I called about prices for new engine, they checked it out for free and turns out i don't need a new engine. If they wanted my money they would have sold me the engine.
