That's BS if it's only 4x4. All trucks use the same balljoint!

I just bit the bullet and replaced mine. Both Fronts were bad, replaced with TRW. Took about 6 hours, Had a few beers in that time as well. Chances are good if the recall does go through, that DC will reimburse me for the parts. I wuoldn't want them puting the same crap back on my truck. I would demand they be replaced with greasable ones.

They have the TRW's at Advanced Auto Parts about $100 for the uppers, the lowers I have not touched, with the 4x4 you need a special press to get them out, and put the new ones in. Sorry, I do not remember the part #'s

I saw someone else already asked, but I'm also interested:

Aren't the 2004's also affected by the ball joint problem? Or did they switch to different ball joints? Anyone know?

Thanks,
PLL

We have a 99 dakota and had to replace the ball joints this year. Anyone else have the same problem?? Why wasn't our year included in the recall. Was there a design change for 2000??

When the ball joints on my 2000 went bad I couldn't find replacements for a 2000 and newer Dak. The 99 Dak ball joints fit perfectly in my 2000 Dak, they are the same crappy part.

What about my 2 wheel drive Dakota. SAME BALL JOINTS, why do I wait for my wheels to fall off before 100,000 to be covered?

I guess I got lucky, cause back in Nov, I had the dealer check my balljoints the uppers were shot and the lowers almost as bad. I had bought some moog uppers&lowers in case i had to have them done myself. Asked the service tech what would happen if there was a recall, would I be reimbursed,he talked to the service manager, and they said they'd do the uppers at no charge because of a good possibility of a future recall. They popped the old out,put the new uppers in(no zerks though),I had them replace the lowers with the moogs.

Dodge Balljoint Recall = Amsoil Series 2000 Grease
IP: Logged

Message:

Unlike OEM Ball-Joints - Replacement Ball-joints have Grease Fittings!

Please consider:

Amsoil Series 2000 Synthetic Racing Grease...

equals ... "Unbeatable high-speed/high temperature performance!"

Ultimate protection for hard-driven, high-performance vehicles. Dramatically reduces friction and wear for improved performance. Excels at both high and low temperature performance. Outperforms other conventional and synthetic greases. Product Code: GRG

_______________ _______________

Applications

AMSOIL Series 2000 Synthetic Lithium Complex Racing Grease meets the highest performance standards of the National Lubricating Grease Institute, GC for wheel bearing applications and LB for chassis applications.

Load Capacity

AMSOIL Series 2000 Racing Grease is an extreme-pressure multi-purpose grease formulated for high-temperature/high-speed applications. Yet, it excels in the protection of low-speed bearings, a job usually reserved for heavy-duty products. Components get the load bearing capacity of a heavy-duty grease without sacrificing the high-temperature protection of a multi-purpose.

Anti-Wear Performance

AMSOIL Series 2000 Racing Grease passes the Ford Film Strength Endurance Test with a 16 point margin. Most nonsolid-fortified racing greases, synthetic or conventional, do not pass. AMSOIL Series 2000 Racing Grease keeps greased components in like-new condition.

All-Temperature Protection

AMSOIL Series 2000 Racing Grease pairs a high Viscosity Index synthetic base oil with a top-quality lithium complex thickener, known for its extraordinary performance in temperature extremes. AMSOIL Series 2000 Racing Grease offers excellent low-temperature pumpability and high-temperature consistency for dependable all-temperature protection.

Oxidation Resistance and Inhibition

AMSOIL Series 2000 Racing Grease’s excellent oxidation resistance and robust package of oxidation inhibitors prevent grease breakdown and component surface damage in the highly oxidizing conditions associated with high temperature operations.

Friction Reduction

AMSOIL Series 2000 Racing Grease maximizes power through-put and fuel efficiency by minimizing friction. The extra power given by Series 2000 improves acceleration and top-end speed.

Washout Resistance and Corrosion Inhibition

AMSOIL Series 2000 Racing Grease resists water wash out and inhibits rust and other forms of corrosion.

I guess I was lucky, in that I noticed the noise on my 2000 R/T a couple months ago with only 17K on the odometer. I called the dealership (not where it was purchased new) and was told to call the 800 number for Chrysler. Would you believe it, they replaced it (upper right) with me paying a $50.00 deductible. I figured that wasn't too bad, since the truck was way out of warranty. Now, if they cover the 2WD, I should get a refund. and get the left replace before it goes bad.

does anybody know what they will replace the ball joints with? It wouldn't seem like common sense to me to replace a problem(current ball joints) with another problem.

Has anyone actually called their dealership and tried to setup an appointment to get their ball joints replaced?

Check this out. My dealership actually called me to set up an appointment to get the balljoints relplaced this morning. I told them that I could not bring it in and asked if they could come and pick it up. They said that they would. So they came to my house and picked up my truck at 9:00 am and dropped it back off at 1:00 pm. Not the kind of service I expected but very much appreciated. I live in Crest Hill, IL and the dealership was Joliet Dodge.
