Subject: how are reverse light bulbs accessed
IP: Logged

Message:
Hi Guys, my truck failed inspection since I have no reverse lights (both sides), and as it is both, it is probably not the bulbs, as it would be quite a coincidence for both to burn out at the same time - but it could happen.

My driveway is a slushy mess here in NH, so i am being lazy and not crawlng under the truck today. I want to check the bulbs, how do you get to them? No screws in the lenses, and it doesn't look like you go in from the bed, either. So do they unplug from underneath?

also assuming the bulbs are OK, there must be a switch on the tranny (5sp manual) that is bad, huh?

Should be 2 screws located on inner edge of lamp fixture, seen after lowering the tailgate. I think they are torx headed screws. Once removed, the fixture is pulled rearward to remove and access the backside for bulb removal.

I'm not doubting the information provided by JasonB - I don't know without looking msyelf.

somethings are different for whatever reason.

I asked about adjusting my headlights long ago and was provided incorrect information. The haynes manual is even incorrect for my truck.

somethings are different for whatever reason. Another example, I can't buy a vbelt for my '95 3.9 w/ac & w/power steering at adavance or autozone, it's not the correct size. I have to get it at napa.

this flaming thing is getting really old.

00Dak, Jason seems correct on this one.
I just checked on my 01 and yes, if you pull down the tailgate there are 2 torx screws going into the sides of each of the lights.
One is hidden by the cable securing the tailgate itself.
Good luck !............

On my '00 the taillight screws are covered with body colored plugs. You'll see them when you open the tailgate. As for Slope head.......Just type in his/hers name into the search bar and all that comes up are pointless messages by him. It seems some have nothing better to do than to scan the boards just to find a place to express their stupidity.

Thanks Figols, i'll look for those plugs. on the advice of Switch, I ordered that reverse light switch from Rock Auto (yep $10), because with both lights not working it seems like the most likely problem

Funny, I live in NH and have the exact same problem, both reverse lights not working. My inspection doens't come until May though so I haven't bothered to worry about it, although backing out of my drivway at night is a real bitch.
