Subject: Factory tow hooks?
IP: Logged

Message:
Did dodge put front tow hooks on any of the dakotas?

I have noticed that my front bumper valance has holes that appear to be for hooks, but there are none. I'd like to have something to hook onto when pulling someone out this winter.

If they did, what models/years would I be looking for at a junk yard?

I've got an 02 Dak Sport 4x

From what I've learned there is no Dodge OEM towhooks for the Gen III Dakota.
I looked when mine was new.
You'll have to look to the aftermarket.
I settled for a class 3 hitch and tow from the rear.
Good luck !

Don't think he's talking about the fog light openings. On newer (2001 and up) Daks and Durangos there are two extra access holes. Looking up from underneath, they allow access to bumper bolts on each side.

There weren't any factory tow hooks on Daks and Durangos because the frame ends in two horns, without a cross brace, and not enough structural rigidity to use tow hooks without tweeking the frame horns. If you really want tow hooks up front, consider installing a front hitch receiver. It will become the frame crossmember you're missing, and you can weld hooks on to it.

The front hitch only works for 4WD models.

If you install the front tow bar (hitch) do you have to remove the splash guard that covers the oil filter?

Do a search, this subject has kicked around for some time, and there are some good ideas for installing your own hooks.
I have an 02, I fabed some brackets out of heavy steel, bought some hooks, done.
And yes they work quite well, and they look cool too.
With some thought and planning, and some elbow grease, you could have them to.
