Subject: Cruise Control Problem
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a '99 Dakota Club Cab with the 5.2L V8. When I set the cruise control, it seems to keep the speed relatively well as long as I am on flat ground.

When I start to go up a hill, it (expectedly) slows down a bit. However, it never tries to keep up or catch back up once it has lot speed.

I set it at 62 MPH and left it for about 4 minutes. After a couple of hills it was down to 48 MPH.

Is this a known problem? Will the dealer fix it under warranty?

Thanks,

Phillip

This one comes up pretty regular lately. Yours is slightly different but if you have no trouble lights then it should be your TPS (throttle position sensor). If you are still in warranty then mother Mopar should cover it. The problem is some mechanics are hard to convince that it is the problem.

It could be that TPS. My cruise would surge a few hundred rpms as I would go down the highway. It is easy to replace and I bought mine at oemparts.com
