12000 miles- plugs + a few wires
19000 miles, freeze plug
20000 miles( currently) i put the truck into 4WD cause we had snow and it went in ok, and now it is stuck in 4WD, thank god i have a chevy as well. other problems are the the trans shifts hard and the torque converter is draining back and little things that bother me, are any of the things that i mentioned big problems with dodge or just me, any help is greatly needed thank you very much

yeah man sorry its just the design of the daks in general, though mine is a 99 with 80,000miles on it, and only had rotors replaces and other normal prev. maint. on it, its been a good truck.. My next truck will be anything but dodge, due to my ram causing me more problems, i dont care if its a toyota ford, chevy, or the new titan, all I know is that out of all the trucks I've tried, my fords and chevy's work and last the longest, ford F- series especially, had a 97 f-350 7.3L deisel that lasted 120,000 without any problems whatsoever, at all! Sorry but id say sell your dak, I lobve mine, its very unique, but i dono what to say, i feel its built with car parts, ive never heard so many creeks ans clunks and squeeks in any car/truck before. mine is on its last leg i think, but it has been ok to me

Not all dakotas are that way, you must of got a bad one. If I was you i'd be trading that thing in and getting a new truck.

I have had very few problems in my 63k miles so far. One rear end, one intake gasket and routine maintence is all. After reading your post I am guessing you live in hell and it snowed one day? Must have been when steelers beat the pats. Thats just my guess though. You got a lemona! You should check your local lemon laws in nebraska that truck would be a brand new truck on dodges dime. In hell though you might have to pay extra.

I have to agree with you Ben. My '00 4x4 Qc 4.7L is a POS compared to my previous GMC's. I guess if this was the first truck I've ever owned then I wouldn't feel this way, but I've had 2 GMC's both of which went over 200K miles with out any major problems. My 90 K1500 had 290K with a 305! It still ran like new and didn't burn a drop of oil! The only thing replaced on that was the auto tranny at 189K miles. It even had the original water pump! My 96 w/350 had 240K when I sold it and the only part replaced on that was the tranny at 120K. Ofcourse normal wear parts were replaced when needed. I was much rougher on those trucks than I am with my Dakota and yet the Dakota is regularly having things break or wear out prematurely! It's too bad because I do really love the Dakota. I think I just keep the Dakota because I'm determind to make it last to 200K miles. What I'm starting to realize though is it just may not be worth the money to keep it going. The thing just nickles and dimes me! I have 80K miles on it now and it seems at every oil change I'm fixing something else that has worn out or flat out broke! Very disapointing!

I would like to point out the dakota is not an equivilent truck to a 1500. The dakota is a light-mid size not a full size and is more fragile. the RAM 1500 is a far better truck, cept it won't fit in my garage.

Fragile is correct! Actually, the Dakota is rated as a 1/2 ton, which is the same as the 1500. The front axle rating of the Dakota is higher than that of the Ram 1500 (go figure). I found that out when I had my plow installed. Look it up and you'll see. In anycase, the problems that the Dakota has, in most cases has nothing to do with it's GVW, but rather poor build quality and/or inferior parts. Besides, in my case most of my miles are highway w/o any payload or towing. I shouldn't have so many annoying problems (which are the same common problems most have with these trucks) with easy highway miles. The Ram is just as bad if not worse than the Dakota, according to my friend that works at Dodge. They share a lot of the same drive train parts and that seems to be the majority of the problems. Rear axles, engines, trannys & electronics are shared between the Dakota/Durango and the Ram 1500.

Like I said, I love my Dakota, but it just isn't built as well as my previous GMC's or even my old 87 Toyota which was pick up with 180K miles and the bed rotting off. It didn't rattle, squeak or have nearly as many parts wear out or break!

I love my Dakota, but facts are facts! I'm not putting the truck down without justification. It is what it is and I'm just calling it what it is.

Sorry if some of you are offended.

2001 cc dakota 4.7 138,*** without any problems at all,no burning oil, tranny is fine no slips, just the power steering pump fixed which was $325 for dodge...dealer ship part only. But the bad thing was when this thing hit like 1 mile more the oil pump failed,i turned the truck off a split second later and spent $400 to have it cleaned and it carried great oil pressure again right on the high side at the red mark which is perfect.3 days later its knocking like crazy...the motors shot im about the set it on fire and roast some weiners on it...lol...while im setting on my 95 s-10 blazer vortec 6.I love my dakota and i really miss it but why spend $5200 on the new rebiult 4.7 when i bought a different ride for $4000 and had $1200 left over to pay off some bills

All chrysler products are great when they run. But when problems are present it seems to be a common problem that never gets fixed Be it Valve Taps,Rotors, rears or thumping in front ends if ones has it they all have it and it's forever.
