Saw it on the dealer's lot in person for the first time today. No, I don't think that impression will change or that it will 'grow on me' like everybody likes to say about knew designs. It's shaped like a slug and the nose is too low. Couldn't stand the new Durango when it first came out, don't like it anymore. Feel the same about the DAk. Looks like the Ram is now the only really good looking truck left in the Dodge line-up. I wonder how they will screw that upp when they redesign it.

Also, anybody else notice now they seem to be putting these half-assed little sport type mudguards just on the front wheel wells? The short, stubby type ones like you see on sports cars? What's the point? It doesn't serve any useful function, and it will just be one more step people have to go through to install more useful aftermarket units. Shoulda been real functional truck-type flaps on all corners or else leave the fenders laked.

Plus, I saw the interior on one extended cab SLT. Looked great except they have faux wood for the area surrounding the stereo. Looked totally out of place and very cheap. All In all I was not impressed. USually when they say they'll make the 4x4 and 4x2 ride heights the same on a truck that's a good thing because that means you can get the same look without springing for a 4x4. Here they lowered the 4x4 instead of raising the 4x2. Worst thing is, alot of light trucks are probably headed for the same droopy look in future what with lower bumper standards and all.

Agreed - those trucks are fugly. Since the Dakota was originally built, this is the first ugly change they've made. And, then there's the Caravango. What a terrible looking pile of crap. Some people down the street have one that is all riced out - looks like some Jap troop carrier on steroids.

My family has owned '88, '98, '99, '03, and '04 Daks - my '04 will definitely be the last if this keeps up. I thought the Durangos were some of the nicest looking SUVs out there until this turd came out.

Dodge - get a clue.

MAkes me wonder what else is out there. Ranger is a 10+ year old design that Ford shows in interest in improving. New F150 is bloated. Chevy Silverado has the Aztek look I hate going. I here there's a possibility the new Ram may mimmic the Dakota/Durango front end. IS the plain old, svelte, rugged, muscular school of truck design going out the window? MAybe after this one I will have to just buy a 4-5 year old used truck to leave out the junk I don't want and have styling that still looks like a truck should.

I think since trucks have become such hot selling vehicles, manufacturers are thinking they can sell even more by making them look less intimidating to yuppies and soccer moms. Style over substance seems to be the way of the world today for the most part. Dodge jumped right in there with the Durango and Dakota this past year. I sure hope my '02 holds up for several more years so I can have both style AND substance for a while.

I agree with ya'll. They're makin them more appealing to yuppies and city slickers. My dad has an '03 Silverado, and I dun like it that much. It drives really nice, which I don't like. A truck isn't supposed to feel like you're on a cloud. The suspension is waaaay too soft IMO. I dunno, I was considering doing the same thing though if I need a new truck, just looking around and getting an old truck for cheap, slap in a couple grand to overhaul it. I dunno. Just saddens me.
