Subject: Parking Brake Handle Snapped

Message:
I have a 2002 Dodge Dakota Quad 4x2 (Manual).

I recently jumped in the truck, started her up, pulled the parking brake handle... *snap*... it broke! Imagine my surprise!

Apperently, the parking brake is controlled by a metal rod, which is attatched to the plastic handle by a small plastic ring (molded to the handle). In my case, that ring completely snapped off the back of the handle.

The replacment handle wa sonly $21 after tax, but it's still an annoyance. Long story short, i was looking at the handles this afternoon, and its obvious that the replacment handle/ring is MUCH stronger and thicker in size than the OEM handle/ring (this is a Dodeg part purchased from a dealer)... an obvious admitance of blame.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is it worth my tiem to call Dodge and complain - or just let it go for $21. Also, i haven't taken a look at how dificult it will be to swap out - anyone have any tips/words of warning before i get in there?

Thanks!

- Skylar

I had the same problem on my 02 quad, it just broke one day, I took it to the dealership and they told me it was under warranty. They ordered it for me but they wouldn't let me put it on, they said that they had to do it for some strange reason, but it snapped on in about 5 seconds.

Thanks, i'm completely out of warrenty (was purchased used from a traveling salesman with 65,000 miles... dirt cheap though!).

I'll just have to wing it. Sounds like it is a reoccuring problem though...

Mine broke off about 8 years ago on my 92. Never fixed it, I just reach a little further down under the dash and grab the wire. Still passes inspection so I live with it.

Broke mine around a couple months ago. '02 Quad cab.

REplacement snapped right into place, and the metal rod slipped into it's hole easily.

Still wish there was an aluminum replacement. DOn't trust the plastic anymore.
