Subject: Wiring for a bed light?

I bought some lights to go in my bed (covered) I found the group of wires running along the frame but I don't know which one it which. Any ideas? or alternatives?

Your best bet would be to run a new wire from the main power box, to a circuit breaker, then to the swith in the bed, and then to the lights.

The factory uses wires that are designed to carry the amps as planned. If you start adding additional loads, you could cause a problem.

OTOH, if you have a factory tow harness, and you never tow, you could tap off of that. Look on the plug cover to tell you which wire is +.

harness and you never tow...." I'd still suggest
running your own fused power cable to the bed of
your truck. Run it large enough (10 or 8 guage) so
you could also run other goodies under the cover
like coolers or even power inverters.

It's easier to do than you think.

My truck came with the cap light wired to the parking lights and I ran a new wire myself. Make sure that the wire/fuse you use is always hot so you don't have to have your parking lights on to use your new light.
